WELL, THE -30c has been a good indicator...cutting firewood at -30C is another good one...chickens in the kitchen because -30C was not good for them...and a full size goat in the living room by the woodstove - Yes, THIS IS WINTER.
So how has your past 2 weeks been going???

Muscovys and roosters in Rubbermaid totes in my kitchen, all the barn cats in the house, and hours of carrying warm water to all the critters. Cutting and hauling firewood to my elderly parents and shoveling them out multiple times over the last few weeks. Yup, it's winter!

2 chickens in the bathroom, 3 in the basement and some in the garage with a heat lamp. Yup winters here!

What? There is absolutely no way I would have a full sized goat in my living room, the cow already takes up most of the couch so I'm drawing a line! Now where is that pig, he was supposed to be getting me another coffee from the kitchen!

Thankfully, we have no livestock in the house yet. The laundry room is chock-a-block with feeders, waterers, bedding and feed, etc, though. I'm keeping a close eye on my oldsters. So far, so okay. I shudder to think what our hydro bill will be this month, though. I've been leaving my flat panel heater on 24/7 in the coop, as well as the quail's "electric hen" in the quail house.

Well, um, err, cough cough...i have brought the dogs in on those really cold days and they appreciate it, curled up by the fire, but the birds have done very well out in the coop...neither coop is drafty (sp?) and as long as the water is maintained with fresh changes twice a day they seem to be doing just fine..I have bolstered the floor bedding as they tend to mess things up because going outside just doesn't seem to be in the cards..lol...but chickens in the house?..um, nope..not unless they need medical help :running-chicken:
