New winter chicken keeping hazard

So when I got home last night the wind was blowing pretty good. I put my Sorels on and barn coat and headed out to the coop with water and warm mush (doing a balancing act as I was of course trying to carry more than I should) and wouldn't you know it the door is frozen shut on the coop. Rather than gingerly tapping it with the side of my foot I let my temper out and gave it a swift kick with the full force of my left foot and immediately regretted it. Add accidental toe fracture to the list of chicken keeping dangers
Serves me right I guess but I'm ready for this winter to be DONE!

Oh no! I know what that is like, having broken toes just by accidentally stubbing them on things. Next time use your heel {LOL}.

I'm sitting here humming to the heart beat in my toe and wondering why on Earth I live here. I hate winter. Everything about it. I hate cold, driving in it, shovelling it, falling in it. It's also so expensive! The cost of heating your home, extra gas used in your car warming it up, buying snowblowers, ice melter, plows, winter tires, 2 full wardrobes (summer and winter). It's insulting to have to pay so much extra money to deal with something you already dislike! I need to put some serious thought into island life.

Yes this kind of weather makes you wonder why you live here, but when it warms up a little a walk in the snow is so much fun and being inside nice and warm watching a blizzard outside your window is just somehow so satisifying.
Sorry about your foot, bet you won't do that again.
And yes I am so done with this deep freeze.

You don't appreciate summer without winter. Plus the cold kills pathogens and insects (spruce beetles, ticks) so this cold is actually a blessing.
Besides: there is no such thing as bad weather, just wrong clothing.
Plus you can get out and play in the winter here vs Netherlands (rain and damp). This cold is a bit much but the ice will be good for ice fishing!
The cold makes people look for solutions to problems (how do i stay warm?) and builds a culture of inventors. Why else do Swedes win more Nobel prizes than anyone else?

I will ask myself "how do I stay cool?" while sweeping the sand off my floors and loading coconuts in my wagon all day long...
I need winter for nothing.

The toe is actually feeling much better thanks! The bigger issue is my calf muscle is one big cramp from walking with a limp I guess.

I don't blame you Happy, I was trying to get out of the barn a few days ago, loaded down with frozen drinkers and the door wouldn't open, my frustration caused me to go all ninja on the door! Didn't get hurt though. I do have a stupid broken toe story, I was living in town and was going out for the evening, after my shower I was stepping out of the tub and like I have always done, I shook each foot as I stepped out. CRACK!!! I hit my toes on the edge of the tub and broke one!

Sorry to hear about your toe, and subsequent calf muscle cramps, @Happy . Toe injuries can be very painful, and can mess with your stride in more ways than one.
