There was a picture of a Raccoon in today's Citizen, apparently "saved" by City workers after it caught its paw/hand in a garbage bin.
One of your Jaye ? :)
And they probably released it "into the wild" somewhere out of town. So it can go after your chickens, fight with yur dog, fight with the other coons that are already established in your territory, not know where the hibernating spots are, and die miserably. As I have said before, I am not a fan of relocating problem animals. Deluded people think its kind, but I disagree.

And some make it. A few years back, they trapped a grizzly that killed a bull in Alberta just north of the Montana border. They transported it to the Yukon, still the foothills of the Rockies. A year (or two?) later they trapped him again after he killed a cow near his home territory. He had migrated south over 2000 km. How many dogs, black bears and maybe other grizzlies did he kill coming through their home territory? I am just against almost all relocations.

Rant rant rant and son on.

No I'd sooner relocate or chase away as well, I know its not popular but they are just trying to survive. Yes if they attack people its different but you really can't expect them to know the difference between cow, moose ,deer or pheasant and chicken.
Rats and mice are another story kill them for sure.
I deal with weasels, coyotes , fox , owls, hawks and raccoons, I chase them away, try to keep my birds secure.
I don't have a problem with other people's methods its just not what I would do.

There was a hawk sitting on the roof of our quail pen when I got home yesterday and looked out the window.  :karate:
It saw me and thought better of hanging around. So I guess you could say it relocated itself. :-)

The Ottawa Citizen had an article about 10 years ago that many individuals and others who live trap animals: squirrels, skunks, raccoons, etc drive them across the Champlain Bridge and leave them to the Quebecers.

We have many many stories about that OC. The funniest I heard was from an elderly man near Chesterville, he said since people in Ottawa say not to harm raccoons, he live traps them and let's them go at night in the city. His moto is "you like them so much, you can have them". I highly recommend NOT doing that!!!

Well, i have to admit my problem is not going to get relocated. Fox came back thursday night....managed to scare beejeezes out of turkeys, rip the tail off one before i got out there. No one died, but i have traps set and baited and must admit i wont hesitate if it gives me a shot. I know it has to eat but i draw the line at entering my barn and pens.....and scaring my horses and chasing my cats. There are tons of coons and rats and things. I have scared it off 3 times now....if its not smart enough to get the hint....the coyote got the hint, and lives happily ever after over in the bush. This fox, not so much.
