Re: Good Morning!
Correct. The yorkshire has to be slightly stodgy too, not light and fluffy.
Sorry about your hens too.

Re: Good Morning!
ok, rat would make sense....from rat hole ....but haven't seen rats around in years...since being invaded by a family of skunks ...long story. ...years ago. Yesterday found I'd forgotten to lock the chickens in night before...thought they would be all gone....hustled to the door and found all ok but the dead one by the door was gone! Hoping to unlock the mystery today or tomorrow since LOTS of fresh snow falling for the last 2 hours. Penned up the dog to keep her tracks from destroying all else and while she is not happy to not be playing in the snow....I'm hoping for answers.

Re: Good Morning!
good luck! personally i have "co existed" with rats pretty much from chicken day 1 and usually they go after the chicks, but not a full grown adult. i have had skunks take down adults...and chicks...and in betweens...and eggs..... that musky smell-i find that skunk smell like a really faint skunklike smell when they are just puttering around and haven't sprayed....but weasels and mink also can smell musky, not quite as much as skunk. so i would be worried that possibly a weasel or mink (which can get through surprisingly small holes) might be hanging around. and those are worse news than skunks. at least skunks are easy to get in a trap....mink and weasels can slip through live traps easily....and pry them open and stuff.....
i hope you find out what it is!!!!!

Good Morning from sunny SC
House sitting with a lovely rescue Border Collie who I have minded in the past.
Experiencing the gracious Southern living with a vengeance, having fried everything because on holidays it doesn't count right?

Oh wow, beautiful house and view.
Yesterday had to rescue a couple of Wyandotte pullets because they ended up in snowdrifts and couldn't get out (really?). The just yell until I come running!
