I'm doing ok. Waiting to hear back from CAS and figuring out my parents money sitiuation, as well as cleaning and repairing her house is keeping me busy.

@WLLady moving slowly on the crutches.... they are not the greatest thing for a big person, the biggest issue is all my weight on my good leg starts to bother my good leg. I think I am going to order a knee scooter so I can use that and take weight off my good leg. I think recovery is still going to be awhile. Going to see family doctor at end of week, since cannot see specialist until October 1st.

Morning all ... yes, very nice visit with Jan and Tom last night (thanks again for the tomatillos, Jan). I picked up three adorable little Brabanter chicks as well. On the drive home I wound up having to turn on the car heater to keep them warm enough to quiet them down: apparently the passenger seat heater wasn't getting enough warmth through the bottom of the crate.
They spent the night tucked under an electric hen in a big tote in the laundry room and will be moved into their more permanent lodging after work today.
Before I left this morning I saw them devouring their feed, which I take to be a good sign. :-)

good morning all! i had fun last night.....motion light comes on and all hell breaks loose in the grow out coop and i look out the window at 1am and there's a fox in my driveway!!!! with one of my RIR grow out boys. ARGH! so out i go as fast as i can in my PJs. well, the thing is slightly bigger than a cat, and obviously a young male fox and staring at me from the first row of corn behind my propane tank for about 30 minutes. RIR is dead in the driveway...and i can't really shoot the fox behind the propane tank...because the tank is full and well...yeah...it's dark and night and laws and all that. so i sat in a lawn chair for a while with a flashlight and hubby turned on all the motion lights, and it was quiet the rest of the night...tonight the wire is being drilled into the door (the screen is ripped) and saturday will be processing day to get them gone. the girls will move to the barn tonight (they're in the other coop which is firmly locked shut today). 2 free range stubborn turkeys are too big for the fox i hope.....and today in daylight hopefully the boys will be okay.....sigh. i knew it would happen, shame on me for not getting them moved last weekend. i wanted to!!! but crap happens, and company happens and the move didn't. anyways. that coop needs some repairs in any event....so i'll get it empty this weekend. and do the repairs tonight. guess the wildlife has figured out my dog doesn't work so well anymore. and of course, one of my friends has all my traps....i'll get those back tonight too!

Oh the stories that could be told of poultry keepers out at night in their jammies (or less ;) protecting their flock.
Glad rest of the flock is alright.
Walking the dog yesterday afternoon, flushed out a young/smallish turkey out of the brush and about 100 feet past that point heard and felt a swoosh of a VERY large owl leaving the area, was wondering if we have interrupted a possible hunt in progress?
Drizzly and cold here, waiting for just the right moment to harvest potatoes.
Carp Fair coming up, family tradition its going to be 3 year old grandson's first, hope the weather is good.
Have a safe one!

Yep Kathy they always seem to hit when things are easiest . I have a small digital flashlight attached to my shortened barnyard shotgun just for such occasions , really lights up the eyes . We’ve had 2 roadkill foxes not far from home , gotta love automobiles they kill more critters & people than other things yep critters / predators are opportunistic. Luck

A neighbour loaned me a very sweet side by side .410 which I loved. You can get slugs for it and he carries it for coyotes. Works well.

yeah, flashlight taped to the barrel would have really helped last night. LOL. i did scare the thing pretty badly, so hopefully it won't be back. apparently it's visited the neighbours across the road and tried to take down their cat....
so i guess tonight is chicken moving time. most of these boys are just going to the freezer on the weekend anyways.....but still.....i didn't feed them to feed the local wildlife, unless of course the local wildlife wants to become a nice cozy rug on my floor....and it would be totally different if the chickens were roosting in the tree or in the field...then fair game, but not in their own coop!

I do believe i know what has become of my one cat that has been missing for 9 days now though.....she wouldn't stand a chance against a fox or coyote....
