I hope OC has started something because when I opened up today there was - gasp- an egg in one of the boxes. I don't have pullets this year so someone must be finishing up the moult! I haven't seen an egg in 6 weeks.

It was a weird day here as well KB. My old girl Big Mamma resumed laying yesterday and she's in a nesting box again this morning. This is the girl that was so Ill in October/Nov with the crop issues. She will be 7 this spring! I don't provide supplemental lighting so I have no idea what's up with her. I wish the poor girl would have a longer break.

The only hen that has been laying for the past while after everyone else quit just started her moult yesterday, so no more eggs at all for us for a while. No chicken eggs, anyway. Quail are still laying but have slowed right down; maybe 50% of the hens lay on a good day.

So perhaps there is hope yet?
I thought perhaps the 10 Ameraucana hens I have, have taken an early retirement and will never lay another egg?
Only enough they used to bridge the Wyandottes, but not this year for sure.
On an upside second egg from the pullets was a double yolker, so perhaps they are feeling embarrassed about the late start and are trying to catch up ;)
