@windwalkingwolf there's a really nice cucumber salad-it's EASY.....zesty italian salad dressing and cucumbers diced up. put them together, stir, put in the fridge overnight. eat the next day....mmmm. and it takes lots of cucumbers LOL. just deseed them first....
and there's always relish....which you can can and eat all year and next year and the next year LOL

this weekend is upheaval weekend in the barn. turkeys moving, chickens moving, new breeding stock being set up, kids moving outside, and the for sale list will be finalized. i'm looking forward to it. then i can figure out which of all these males running around get culled for the freezer, and will likely sell some of my older breeders...feels like we need to start getting ready for winter now. I love the fall!!!!! the cooler nights are wonderful!

congrats KB!!!! he's very very handsome and i bet he's driving the girls crazy....or the other way around LOL
and happy to hear that some of the eggs we drove to perth hatched! whoohoo! awesome news.

@windwalkingwolf pic of new guy on previous page!
I think he needs to be in pictures, the "good morning" pages disappear too fast.

Sorry to hear about your accident @JimW that sounds like something that would happen to me. Since my husband died in July, I've broken a toe (slipping on a sweaty floor after hot yoga, of all things) and spent a night in emerg following an incident with a nest of wasps, to which I am allergic. Seems like crap likes to keep piling up on the same person sometimes. Your turn (and mine, too, I hope!) should be over soon!

Poor Miranda kept sitting on those eggs through day 24 when I finally threw them away. Nothing but liquid in them, but we couldn't see through the olive eggs with the candler, so took the gamble. Just as well. I don't need more chickens yet. I still need to figure out how to get the ones I have to sleep in their coop instead of the tree, hopefully before winter or before they start laying, whichever is first....

@JimW i hope you won't need surgery but if you do, it's amazing what they can fix these days! i hope it's feeling somewhat better....!!

yeah, my broody mom that sat forever-i gave her a brand new hatched turkey poult and then had to take it away from her because she was fine with it under her and as soon as it went for water she was pecking at it, so into the brooder with the other chicks/poults...and then i had to get mean with mom because she's sat for 11 weeks now, i don't know how she is alive still....so i threw her out of the stall and into the hallway, locked the stall door and then let the horses in. she's at least been smart enough to not try to sit in her old spot in the horse stall. and now 5 days later she's walking around outside all day, still making broody noises, but at least she's eating and drinking and putting weight back on and not sitting anymore! some birds.....
i don't need more chickens. and just put a load in the incubator. all my welbars and turkeys. i need at least one red palm girl....i only seem to have hatched 1 boy this year. i don't need another boy....gah!

friday. tis a good day. because it's almost the weekend!

Aye, my best to you Jim. In August I didn’t do anything physical, my asthma would have me wheezing in the heat, then allergies hit mid-august and a frost had me happy 1st week of Sept so allergies should be over but I got a cold and I still can‘t fricckin breathe! (not to mention caughing and hacking)

I have so much to do around here: roof repairs, firewood, barn repairs, and my engine ain’t got steam!

Thanks for all the well wishes. Still waiting for an appointment with the Orthopedic Specialist to see if I need surgery or what. Hopefully not. I am looking into mobility options, as I just don't trust walking out back to the birds on my crutches yet, it is a bit of a hill so worried about slipping. And of course my lawn tractor died the week before I broke my leg so I can't drive it out back. So far my 2 daughters have been great looking after the birds and rabbits. Hopefully I will be more mobile soon or I will probably have to sell a bunch of birds.

I hope everyone is enjoying the current heat wave.

Good morning
I have had the most wonderfully, horrible weeks of my life. My Dad died unexpectidly on Monday. Our beautiful Daughter married a wonderful man on Saturday. While we were at the wedding both of our dogs got away from the babysitter and were hit by a car and killed. Wedding, Saturday, Doggy funeral Sunday, My Dads funeral today, and call CAS tomorrow to deal with my 11 and 9 year old nephews. Thier Grandmother who has been raising them called late Thursday and said "came get them right now I don't want them anymore"
Focus on the beauty in your life, it is mixed in there with all the other poop.
