Paw print identification please - raccoon or fisher?

Post by Jaye » Sat Aug 19, 2017 11:03 am

Hoping someone can identify what this print belongs to ...

It was on one of the cross rails inside the run this morning. :o
This tells us we need to finish installing the rest of the welded wire roof panels over the uncovered part of the run ASAP.

How big is the board?
Fisher print looks like a cat print, so not that.
Whatever it is, I wouldn't want it on the inside of run. :(

According to my Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens this looks like a raccoon track - the long fingers. A fisher track is similar to a dog track, but smaller and with 5 toes.

Thanks, Shnookie. That's what I thought/feared too.
OC, I couldn't agree more - I really don't want it on the inside of the run. The rail is a 4 x 4 I believe, same as the base and corner posts.

@ross does that bottom pic mean you're loaded up to drive to Jaye's house?
Good luck Jaye-guess you have your weekend work cut out for you.

LOL, Happy!

Yes, thanks, Ross. I would say it's definitely a raccoon. Hoping the rain holds off so that we can get the panels installed. The reason why it hasn't been done before now is that we have a three-forked tree in our run that has been a design challenge. We've tried several different solutions but none of them worked. We think we've finally come up with something that will. Fingers crossed.

It's raccoon, a big fat one that probably has a lot of friends
