Too bad I didn't read this post until now. I don't have a problem relocating spiders if necessary. Wolf spiders are one of the exceptions because they're so fast, and come toward you rather than away from you, but the one you described didn't sound like it was had any interest in attacking you. I don't love spiders, but I don't hate them either. I do have a healthy respect for the bigger ones: I spent my growing up years in Australia, where they have their fair share of nasties.
