Barred Rocks

Post by KimChick » Thu Aug 10, 2017 2:48 pm

Is there anyone near me who raises Barred Rocks?
Sometime in the future, I would be interested in getting some pullets, but not sure exactly when.
Thanks.

Are you looking for heritage, or production/hatchery? If you're just looking for pet quality, Frey's hatchery sells production Barred Rocks.

If you don't plant the tree, you will never have the fruit...

Looking for laying hens. We like our BSL, which are good layers and part Barred Rock. And we like the size and appearance of Barred Rocks.
Pet, layer, stewing hen - is there a difference?

Oh gee, now you're really making me do my research!
All of our fowl adventures have begun with Frey's.
However, if that is a question to ponder, what would you recommend for laying hens of the Barred Rock breed? Heritage or hatchery?

I had a couple of Barred rocks from Frey in my first Ready to Lay mix. Lovely healthy birds and laid a huge egg. Nice nature too. Oh and you should check whether they debeak birds or not. If not done carefully it's close to barbaric IMO.
