When does summer start?

Today is July the 24th and I drove to work with the heater on! This morning the temperature was +13 and damp! Most of the day was +14, they say we could get 100 millimeters of rain, on the way home I turned the heater back on, I was freezing, plus every now and then the windshield would fog up.

No wonder nothing is growing.

Any minute now...
If it wants to start tomorrow and last until January, I'd be ok with that. I need laundry dried, had to light the kitchen woodstove to get it to dry...and I'm not hot.

This poor little guy decided to leave the nest on the wrong day!

My dog found him trapped in a roll of welded wire by the coop. He had been trying to get out for a while!

It had just been moved yesterday so between that and the cool, damp day the little fella didn't want to leave my hand! He had a short snooze then kept trying to follow me when I put him down. I had to hide in the coop and his cries finally alerted mom. I think she had given up on the little fella. Last seen having worms stuffed down his throat! He's praying for summer tonight too!

Poor thing, I know how he feels.
Had to turn on heat in the house last night,16C is a bit too cold to sit around in, pretty sure it was first time ever to have to turn on heat in July.
Sometime in May when I was still feeling optimistic about summer, while arranging a July 26 lunch with a group of friends, my "challenge" to them was..... wear something "deep summer" and I will make a reservation for a table on the veranda!!!!!!
I am NEVER going to live this down. :)

Maybe ski pants or snowsuits? I was really really close to turning on the furnace on to warm up the place but held off.

Sorry to tell you we have been having blazing sun for over a month, no rain at all, and it is supposed to go to 35 today with the humidex. Grass is brown, weeds are green, some trees and bushes are starting to lose leaves, plants are not really growing and flowers are small. I hate it. There is another week of this forecast, that will take us to August. One long range forecast a while ago from Environment Canada said we would not get any significant rainfall until September. I hope they are wrong. The only good thing is we have not been having any nasty storms here because of the heat and humidity, not yet anyway.

Turn the heat on??! I did grab a blanket to sit on the couch. Everything around Ottawa is waterlogged: south of the city "Parks Canada" is not letting much water flow through the Rideau Canal system to prevent/reduce flooding downstream so the creeks are full, the drainage ditches don't drain so the farm fields don't drain. My friend at Jabulani winery near the Jock river says his grapes are ok but the hayfield around it can't be harvested.
