Check your tetanus shots!

Post by Brebis » Tue Jul 18, 2017 3:36 pm

Just over a week ago a work colleague of my my DH was taken to hospital in Kingston because he was near paralyzed and drooling. Initially they thought he had had a stroke but then discovered he had Tetanus! Happily he is now making a good recovery but it's a reminder that it's a very good idea to check if your immunizations are up to date.

Just so happened I had my yearly checkup the same week and had them check mine as I had cut my finger on some glass in the garden...the sore arm was worth it after hearing about this poor fellow!

It's been 8 or 9 years for me. I'm due to have some blood work done, I wonder if I can have the doc throw a titre check on there?

A titre would be great! I had one for rabies many years ago when I had a dog bite. I'd had the rabies shot more than ten years previously, and it was still good :)

I don't like having shots and was very disappointed to learn that you cannot even get a pure tetanus shot. They mix it with diphtheria and whooping cough. WTH?

You can get it without the whooping cough, you have to ask for it though.

As shots go, it hurts a lot and aches for a couple of days but far better than the possible outcomes without it!

The doctor told him they get 1 case a year in Kingston but they doubled that to 2 this year so far...not a lot but still preventable!

Guess some folks react different than others . I never had any adverse pains but I'm always in some kind a pain with severe degenerative joint decease so tolerance level could be higher . Luck
