I am a radio listener: on CBC or VPR (vermont public radio or NPR) and the internet RTE Ireland, BBC, dwelle Germany (in english), and ABC radio Australia

So I pick up great interviews, one was Rick Smith and his book Slow Death by Rubber Duck (which I just picked up at the library).

Our world is full of poisons, and the truth gets buried as there's too much money to be made. And if someone grabs a blowhorn and tries to tell the world about it, they are silenced or are discredited or drowned in bull paddies.

Long story short; our world is full of poisons and toxins and its making us sick (cancer, weird allergies, attention deficit disorder and other mental function problems, weight problems (?), asthma, etc. etc etc)

We should get involved (politics and/or groups that protest or take action) or at least be aware and make smart choices.

Drink liquids from glass bottles and not plastic, don't heat things in plastic (microwaves, k-cups for coffee), new car smell (chemicals off gassing), flame retardants in furniture (and everywhere) , chemicals on food (wash your fruit), avoid gmo's, don't use chemicals on your lawn and garden, check labels on soaps, shampoos, detergents etc.

Every dollar you spend is a vote for or against a product or service. Spend carefully.

Well I for one don't have to worry bout the "new" vehicle smell less it comes in a can . Lol

It's almost impossible to get away from plastic. And I can't believe all the blasted packaging everything comes in. I remember years ago there was a backlash against over packaging, but that seems to have gone by the wayside and everything is double or triple wrapped in plastic. And for some reason this plastic film isn't being recycled. Most of our garbage that I put out every other week is plastic wrap.
Now plastic is a very useful thing, it has properties that can't be duplicated by anything natural. But, why is it that the blasted shampoo bottles have to be in plastic so thick you can almost drive a tractor trailer over them and they don't dent????? What ever happened to biodegradable plastic (and I don't mean the fake degradable plastic that just breaks down into a billion smaller pieces) ?
Oh wait, I know. It's because it costs more MONEY. I'm not a religious person but I believe we lost our collective "souls" as a species when we sold out to the mighty god Profit, and it seems there's no turning back. As a species we value this artificial thing called money over the very planet that sustains us. And, very few are willing to sacrifice any comforts whatsoever for the sake of our environment. To be honest, me as a person, I've kind of given up the fight. Joined the sheeple.

Our food industry is what made us get into raising our own chickens and ducks. It's a long story, but I was, so sick, I thought that I would die before I got helped. I was on a merry go round with the medical system, prescriptions, ongoing tests and autoimmune diseases. I wasn't absorbing nutrition. After breaking my back in 2010 and finding out that I have osteoarthritis (progressive and degenerative) through my whole spine and neck on top of everything else ended my career and just about my life. Such a feeling of hopelessness and helplessness. I could barely walk anymore, and I gained, so much weight and I had always been tiny most of my life. It was my daughter who figured out what was wrong with me. I have Celiac Disease. I went gluten free and a few months later discovered I had to give up dairy.

My husband and I totally changed our diet eliminating all gluten and I'll tell you it is in more things than you could imagine. It's been a lot of trial and error. Every time I get sick, I have had to go back and check the ingredients. We decided to raise our own meat chickens in 2014, with influence from a nephew, a friend and my daughter. I was saddened by these hybrid meat birds Cornish x. They are made to grow, so fast...faster than their organs. After researching we decided that we would raise heritage birds. We purchased Welsh Harlequin ducks and Partridge Chantecler chickens last year. We try to eat organic food, we have had our own garden for years and I freeze and preserve food. I make all my own food including bread. We avoid GMO foods. We have to ensure we purchase organic vegetable seeds and we produce some of our own. We grew corn in 2014 and after eating it, it made me so sick we figured out it was GMO seed. We even feed our animals organic non GMO food. We are now even changing our soaps, cleaning products etc.

The health benefits of going gluten and dairy free have been enormous and I have lost a lot of weight. Even my husband who isn't gluten or lactose intolerant has benefited. Friends and family are blown away when they see the difference in me. I still am not able to do a lot of things, but I try to focus on what I am able to do and I am thankful. The number of people getting sick and dying from our environment (food, air etc.) is scary. Not everyone realizes this though, not even the health care system. They want to keep everyone on the merry-go-round of the medical system, drug industry, as it all stems down to money. I'm so, glad to have learned everything I have, before it was too late. I am excited and looking forward to new chickens and ducks this year.

Well muffin, welcome to the the world of feathered friends and I'm glad you are seeing improvement.

Robbie: biodegradable plastics (plastic bottles, forks, cups etc.) exist and are made from corn oil. The Catholic Church had a world youth day in 2012 in Munster Germany, and the city gave every visiter a metal water bottle and free water stations everywhere. All food vendors had to use biodegradable packaging and cutlery and plates. Drop a fork on the grass, it disappears in a month... gone. Why isn't that the standard for all takeout food all the time? It costs only a few cents more.

Muffin were gluten free too... Our 1 daughter is celiac and my wife Lizzie and 2 other kids have major problems with gluten as well, we have 6 kids... heck i ate a burger today with a gluten bun and my stomach was hurting bad after. we also got into poultry and raising our own food for the same reasons.

Yes, it's weird, as I had no idea, and now after going gluten free if I consume any bit of gluten or dairy whether by accident or cross contamination...well I know not long after. More and more people are becoming gluten intolerant. It turned out to be quite positive though, as it has made me more aware of what I am ingesting. We tend to stick to only a couple of ingredients in any product we buy. If I don't know what the ingredient is in anything I avoid it. When I first started cooking and baking gluten free, I felt devastated. The flours are expensive and so much of my baking didn't turn out. I was considered to be a good cook and I wasn't anymore. I had to relearn all over again, as it is quite different than baking with gluten. I have started my own cookbook. We like our probiotics too, since being healthy starts in the gut. My husband makes water kefir and I recently made sauerkraut. I'm not crazy about it, but I know that it is good for me. I really want to get into making more fermented foods this year.

I've got a lot to say on the subject but it will have to wait until I get to a computer, or I'll be poking letters all night LOL. But the condensed version is our current population level is not sustainable, and we are dickered. Wouldn't matter if fossil fuels were completely eliminated TODAY.
