Unsettling incident.

Post by Skinny rooster » Tue Mar 21, 2017 11:54 pm

A bit too wired up to sleep. This evening I stopped in to a small mall to grab something to eat. While waiting for my food, this woman said "there is something wrong with that girl over there, she is spitting out of her mouth and going unconscious". I ran over, I at first thought it was maybe epilepsy, but soon I realized it was something else. She was slumped over and completely unconscious. A young woman came over to help me. The people at the mall were completely useless. Lucky the woman had a cell and called 911. I was afraid it may be a fentanyl overdose. We couldn't wake her but we could see that she was breathing and her nails were not turning blue, we didn't find any medical bracelets. Finally after a long time the paramedics came. I was completely disgusted with the way everything was handled, even if it was an overdose she is still a person and not a joke, it could have been diabetic shock or anything like that. She looked about 19 or 20, I hope she is ok, they took her to the hospital, she never regained consciousness. I said to the woman helping me after, that I sure wouldn't want to have a heart attack there where everyone seemed to not be in any hurry to help.

Wow that's scary. Good on you for stepping up. It's sad that so many people are desensitized to any suffering. I hope she's ok.

:iagree: Too many people who'd rather stand and gawk, or dismiss her because she's young. Kudos to you! You may never find out what happened to her, try not to let it drive you nuts :love_smiley:

Great job ! Hopefully there are more people out there like you, but many people just don't want to get involved, they forget that but for the grace of god it could be them or someone they love!

Good for you for helping. It could've been anything - but you're right, even if it was drugs, she's still a person. A very young one at that!

Glad you were there to step in.
I am starting to wonder about the great enthusiasm with which the antidote to overdose has been embraced by all the first responders.
Of course they should have it, but are they now going to assume that every unconscious person has overdosed?
Pretty scary.

Thanks for everyone's thank you's but I'm a little embarrassed because I was just doing what I'm supposed to do, I think most of you would have done the same. The things that are so upsetting is, first the mall seemed to have no emergency station or plan for that matter. Finally a security guard showed up after a while but he looked like 15 years old. He said "ummm maybe she's like drunk err sumpton" by this time another man was helping us and him and I snapped back that she had no smell of alcohol. Plus a drunk person would wake up. If a person was choking or something like that, I know forsure tthey would have died there. Even when the paramedics showed up, they casually strolled through the mall, calmly walked up and said "hey guys so what's up" they were asking us what we thought could be wrong. It just scared me to realize that if I suddenly had a heart attack or something like that there, unless the woman with the cell phone was around, people would probably just look at me on the floor dying while they were getting their chicken club sandwich, and not just the customers, the mall workers as well. There was a worker from a spa place that came over and she gave us the address because the name of the mall and major street intersections beside the mall didn't seem to be enough blanking information for them.

SR, you are right to be disappointed in the human race.... that is a prime example of what this world is becoming! It's scary out there to think you may have to depend on someone you don't know for your survival, don't be embarrassed, you should be proud, you were where you were supposed to be at the time and did what you were supposed to do.... hugs
