From the BBC today, I expect any of us that have chickens could appreciate.
I know I have had a few chickens that would be on the Mensa end of the spectrum but sure are quite a few that really are thick- even for a chicken!

I am still amazed at some of the things I have observed, specifically the after combining new pullets with an old flock every year, even 4 years later the four year old flock will be friendly to each other and unfriendly to the 3 year old flock, when to me they look absolutely identical and if each year wasn't banded with different color I couldn't tell them apart.
The unfortunate part of course is, that once you realize the birds are somewhat self aware, it's more difficult to dispatch them when needed.

Doesn't surprise me at all! Having a very small flock I get to know my birds pretty well and observe them a lot. There's the smart and the not so smart...Just like people lol! My little house rooster has been exposed to a completely different life than the ones in the coop and most days I think he is far smarter than my dogs. He understands and anticipates all of the routines in the house...What happens next and how he can benefit from it.
