Chickens are laying, the Chickens are laying

Post by Cousineau » Fri Jan 06, 2017 8:56 pm

Last week I was getting 1 egg from one lonely Bantam Buff Brahma show hen and the other 15 pullets of various breeds weren't doing anything except eating feed. Then all of a sudden eggs have started to pop up everywhere. An old Easter Egger started laying 5 days ago as well as an Australorp pullet. Then today 2 of our 7 Partridge Chantecler pullets and a Wheaten Ameraucana pullet decided to start laying. Coldest day of the year in Southern Ontario and we had 6 eggs today. And what fun colours to find. Needless to say we had egg sandwiches for lunch.

That's great Cousineau!!! Nice coloured eggs too!!

My freeloaders just started laying out of the blue again, had nothing for over a month and a half. Out of 30 hens was only get maybe 1 egg a day. Most had a hard molt in November so I figured I would not have any for awhile. Started adding a few extra hours of light in the morning and evening and added some extra protein and the switch got turned on, now getting a least a dozen per day :yay:

Love the coloured eggs! Mine have not started up except the leghorns, which are always laying and one lone olive egger.

Gorgeous eggs! I love going out to the barn and getting a pocketful. Unfortunately, I've got several girls laying, but I also have a pet pig running loose with them...and he hoovers most of the eggs before I get them!
