Winter newbies...
Well...went out this morning to let the gang out of the coop..coupla inches of new snow (finally!!!) and frozen water in the waterer ( another challenge) ..opened the hatch to the pen and of course the initial single file stampede out the door..wait! wait! wait..FULL STOP on the ramp...bumping into one another like a 401 pileup.. Wtf is this????....abrupt about face and everyone is back in the coop...Earl is crowing his "I am NOT amused" rendition all morning...just hilarious...

Poor Missie came out and frantically took off in a panic. Landed, picked her way to the other coop. She is NOT impressed. The old girls know better and seem to be saying "told you so!"

My chickens won't go outside either, even though I shoveled a nice path for them and spread some scratch. Not even cold yet!

Re: Winter newbies...
i opened the little door for the girls...the one rooster came out and looked around, then flew to the middle of the driveway, called the girls and the girls didn't even look out the door. they're all still inside on the roosts. threw some sunflower seeds their way, rooster picked his way in and went to bed. they'll be in for the day even though all our snow/ice has melted. turkeys are having a great time outside though! they love this, enough wind that they can spread wings and glide a long way!
