I had a conversation recently with a friend who has cancer and I recommended this book to read. I've heard the author Richard Beliveau on radio many times. He was working as a researcher for a drug company and they uncovered many foods and spices that have cancer fighting properties. Since these elements can't be patented the drug company did not research these further. So he wrote the book.

Thank you for posting this. Cancer runs in my family, so I think I'll look into this one.

I remember he said that cancer rates per population are lower in India and they consume a lot of turmeric (yellow spice found in curry) which has anti-cancer properties.

I used to work in the drug industry (Bayer) and it's all down to the money. In the US Neulasta used to be $30K per shot - now about $11K. I understand they need research money but now many companies are being gobbled up by holding companies and that causes problems. Incidentally turmeric is supposed to mitigate the side effects of Chemo.

If you can extract active compounds from turmeric for example and replicate it chemically(or approximate it in a way that it still works) you absolutely can patent that. Call your new compound Turmeridazone (play on words is a bonus lol) and even if big pharma doesn't pick it up, supplement manufacturers would be beating down your door.
Testing for approval for a drug takes a lot of time and a lot of money for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is that you don't want to find out 5 years down the road that although your cancer is now in remission, you are now extremely susceptible to other nasties or develop catastrophic hemorrhoids or something. Just food for thought. But until Pfizer gets Turmeridazone on the market, absolutely nothing wrong with eating nutritious food! And, research has shown that if you believe you are doing something good for your body, that you actually ARE.

I love turmeric. My daughter told me a few years ago that you have to use it with pepper. It is really good in scrambled eggs. I add it to a lot of food I prepare. I've gotten into using many more spices in the past few years. Good to use raw and natural. I use raw ginger root, but haven't been able to find the turmeric root, so I use the powder. We grow and eat a lot of garlic too.

Moringa is a superfood that we use. it is a tree that grows in the tropics. Maca is another superfood that is a root belonging to the radish family grown in Peru. These powders can be used in drinks, such as, smoothies. Moringa tea is good. There are many health benefits from using these products. We sure have benefited from using them.

Breaking Bad happens over here.

I have a capsule machine where I capsule turmeric, astragulus, ginseng and psyllium husks. These are part of my daily routine. When I break out the mini factory Lou and Josh refer to it as Breaking Bad. Not quite the meth lab from the show, but it's humourous non the less.

I've read many times the Max Gerson theory and treatments, both preventative and cure. Certain cancers I firmly believe I'd be at one of their facilities if I was unfortunate enough to be handed that card. Others, no. I've always said I'm not sure chemo is in my life, but one never truly knows unless the situation is in your hands. The fact that his practice isn't allowed in the US or Canada ... Says a LOT to me. Very controversial so I'll just leave it at that.

For me, preventative is where one should start. Obviously.

There are so many food that are beneficial to fighting cancer and other health ailments but how we cook this food has the potential to deem the food null and void.
Microwaving your food is the most destructive form of cooking. Of course, raw is always the best, but in some cases even freezing the food item has potential to reduce its potency.

With that said, there are also so many foods that aid in the development and influence of many health ailments. I have oseteoarthritis and fibromyalgia. Inflammation markers in milk products do impact me dramatically. 2 years, almost 3, ago I gave up drinking milk, which I did every day up until that point. Within 2 days the difference in my pain level was dramatically reduced and within 7 days it was enough for me to never drink glasses of milk or lattes again. I have never really cared for cheese (gasp I know) but if I do have it I can notice a change in my pressure points in a few hours. But that's me. I don't advocate one way or another for milk consumption. I bake with coconut milk or rice milk. I haven't had a bowl of cereal in 2 years.

Then there isn't only the food we eat, it's what we wash ourselves with, the chemicals we clean with, the laundry detergents we use and so on.

When I hear of children, 3 years old having liver cancer, I am speechless. THREE. YEARS. OLD. Children that are toddlers and younger, babies, fighting cancer, losing their lives to a battle no child should ever endure. I just can't go there.
I know we are at a breaking point. The scale is going to tip and hindsight is going to suck.

Somehow a bit off topic so I'll wrap it up right here.

Gerson therapy!?! I just read the highlights...it makes too much sense. Our human bodies contain so many toxins that we qualify as "toxic waste" due to the parts per million of metals and toxins in our bodies.

Several years ago researchers decided to test toxins accumulating in the bodies of people with an emphasis on residents of big cities. So samples were taken from the breasts of women in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and other cities and samples were taken from Inuit women of the far north (of course they would be the healthiest due to the lack of air pollution in the far north).
Much to the surprise of the researchers, the Inuit women had the HIGHEST levels of toxins in their bodies including high amounts of DDT (which has been outlawed in Canada in the USA since the 1970's)!!! DDT is still manufactured in the states and sold in India where there are no rules. The researchers discovered the "grasshopper effect" where hot air rises from India into the high atmosphere and then drops in the arctic releasing the pollutants into the ground.

Inuit eat a lot of whale, seal and fish. The heavy metals bioaccumulates in the blubber and fats of the fish and then consumed by humans.

Newborn whales are toxic from their mothers. oh man, what a mess.

Bioaccumulatiom of heavy metals and toxins in fish is why they put a recommended reduction on consumption of tuna and salmon etc. And if you're pregnant don't eat it period. Mercury etc is bad for the developing brain and organs and does not shed, but make sure you get your vaccines shots !!

Ok, I'm done before I throw myself off a cliff
