The cows came home, ugh!

Will be tired tomorrow morning, the guy who rents the pastures, took away his calves to be sold. For those not familiar with cattle it means the mothers will call for them none stop for the next 48 hours. To give you an idea what that is like, imagine twenty angry people park their cars outside your house and randomly honk their horns all night. Moo!

Our neighbour has cows. Don't mind it. Here it's mooing AND the odd gunshot LOL! AT least the neighbours don't call the cops when I shoot something.

LOL. they just weaned down the road too last night. my whole evening spent hunting was counting the different voices and matching the kids voices to the mom's voices. They did quiet down about 4am....once the coyotes started up. go figure. oh, and shotguns down the road turkey hunting and some guys along the river waterfowling too. much better than noisy parties till all hours next door and nosy neighbours!

Yes, i don't mind a gunshot, its all the same as the three rules of real estate: location, location, location.

Soon we will be weaning here as well. Although, we will have 45 angry mothers. Seriously... with the cows mooing outside... and the calves mooing inside... you NEED ear plugs to work in the barn. If you don't have them, it grinds on you so bad... you begin to recklessly try and finish your work... it drives you insane after awhile. The calves don't get to go outside, until things quiet down, and everyone gets used to the change. Probably the biggest thing about it going on for so long (much longer than 2 days), is that they can see/touch, but not interact with sucking etc. Oh well. We have been doing this for over 25 years.

On a foggy night/morning, we have received calls from one old lady in the village, convinced they were in the cornfield behind her house. lol. People as far as 2 km away can hear them.

yeah, i'm about 1km from the farm that weaned yesterday

and when it's a nice quiet night-sound definitely travels!

The beef farmer across from us retired a few years ago. I miss seeing all of the cattle, but don't miss the auction day calling.

We're lucky because he only takes one or two at a time! Much less noise.
