JoAnn McCall says, "eat them to save them". It's critical we don't lose their genetics. Wouldn't take much to wipe out commercial poultry flocks and then at least we'd have these to fall back on. Scary that the BSWs seem to have just over 300 breeding females in private hands and I have 7.

This report was interesting. It does however just make me want more chickens...just to help them out :)

I filled out that census and am vey glad to be a part of the few Beltsville Small White Turkey breeders. there seems to be LOTS of RIR out there but since most are from hatcheries I wonder how many of those birds are real Reds. Nevertheless I'm very glad to be one of the breeders in Canada!

I understand that the "white faced black Spanish" aka "clown faced chicken" is exfremely rare and not on that list.

I spoke to a lady that had Barred Hollands and gave up due to inbreeding problems and she couldn't find other lines to cross with.
