When Government Gets Involved

It's funny how people in government at all levels wonder why we cringe when they get involved with anything. Yesterday was a perfect example. Ottawa had a problem with teenagers walking out on an old train bridge. The solution, to put a gate at each end, sounds good so far. So they put up a regular chain link gate at each end, now the cost of that was.... take a guess.... guess again...... $46 000.00!!! Within an hour or two the kids lifted the gates off their hinges and were back out taking selfies on the bridge. Imagine if the city had to fence a ten acre field lol, would fifty seven million do it?

I read the other fencing option was rejected because it was too expensive...a whopping $250,000!
The other problem with that bridge seems to be all the various government departments, federal and municipal that are responsible for it so nothing constructive can be done to it.

LOL. there's always destruction, and honestly, that goes cheap if they get the right labour! (i'm sure some teenagers - with the proper guidance of course - would love a lesson in implosions using explosives.....who wouldn't??!)
so why do people always have to be restricted? Its like here where i work people were constantly cutting across the one lawn. so all these estimates for fencing etc etc.....so i asked why not just put a simple walkway in and let them use it? they won't get ticked, and no one uses that space for anything, and why not just go WITH it, otherwise they'll just find some other way around? so of course, they put in gates, and a garden and big fence, and signs and now they complain that people stand and smoke out there, and lock their bikes to the fence....SERIOUSLY?! (when before people were just passing through....10 seconds or less.....)

Would have made a good downpayment on fixing the bridge and make it usable for walking and biking, but as per usual it will take several gates and several years, unless the bridge falls down first, because it's not being maintained.

Hahaha! Just perfect Ross, but wait a minute, what if they build a fence around the swing to protect people from using it, oh that bill is gonna hurt the taxpayers, lol.

Now they're going to increase security around the train bridge, haw haw. I guess they're trying to protect people from themselves? I say boobytrap the bridge with flashbangs :D
