"Ontario's economic development minister says "overall trends" in the province are strong despite a Statistics Canada report on Friday that said Ontario lost 36,000 jobs in July. [WOO HOOO ONTARIO ROCKS]


"Obviously, we would have rather seen an increase in jobs in July, but the overall trends in Ontario continue to remain very, very positive," Brad Duguid said Friday. "July was the 15th month in a row that we've seen Ontario's unemployment lower than the national average."

Duguid acknowledged to reporters that the employment news for the province could have been brighter. "Unfortunately, July's numbers also represented a downward fluctuation this time."

I had to read the the above paragraph twice......... and then :sad: :sad: :sad:

Statistics Canada said Ontario suffered the biggest job losses of all provinces in July, with its labour market decreasing by 36,000 positions. Statistics Canada said 18,900 of those jobs were full time. Canada, as a whole, lost more than 31,000 jobs last month.

I think I'm going to be sick. Or maybe I should have what some of these politicians and CBC reporters are having

I'm no genius in math but I think 36,000 jobs is a wee bit more than 31,200 and how can you have 36,000 lost jobs in Ontario alone, but 31,200 in all of Canada? Did I miss something?
Oh wait, here's some more genius from the same article:
Matthew Stewart, associate director of economic analysis for the Conference Board of Canada in Ottawa, said the board still expects Ontario to be the "growth leader" among the provinces but it is suffering from weak employment, weak business investment and a lack of growth in exports.
This will be a miracle or if Ontario is really going to be the growth leader what's that say about the other provinces/territories????????

Guess they have to try and put a positive spin on it. I think the losses where offset by some new jobs though from what I see they are mostly part time.
Still, as one of those who lost a good full time job in the last 2 months, it's all pretty depressing especially when the only jobs that seem to be added are min wage part time service jobs.

Was just talking about this joke at dinner.

Few thinks suck more than losing your job, it has to be high up on the top 5 list of bad things that happen. Brebis, I wish you hopes for finding a new job soon, a much much better one that will make you feel very good that you lost your old job.

One thing Robbie..ontario can lose 36k jobs but if other provinces gain a few then the overall national loss could conceivably be less than ontario's...idiot politicians cant speak the truth..EVER!!!!

Tom Politicians are the only ones who can get away with saying that money not spent is "saving". I guess that's how they figure job losses too.

Brebis..it certainly is bad that you lost a decent job...don't spend too much time trying to find a replacement...i know many very capable qualified people that apply hundreds of places...its a lottery and most definitely who you know...self employment is the route...

I heard the same news with the commentary that most of the loss was the people doing the census.
So since we are not going to have another one, this should be a one time thing...

Bismal in any case compared to the US. The cheap cad should help more IMHO.

We've both been there Brebis. The high $ ended up closing many pharmaceutical operations. Now it's lower again who knows if they'll come back.
