Re: Good Morning!
@Bayvistafarm We went through something similar moving in here, and are still going through it. The hardwood flooring was sort of saveable, warped all to crap and urine stink to high heaven, but we bleached the out of it to kill the smell, and probably could sand it down level and varnish it eventually, but in a hurry, exhausted, with mountains and mountains of garbage and animal feces, we just put floor paint on it and threw down large area rugs. There was so much dog and cat urine in this house that it rotted BEAMS underneath the floor, especially by the doors. And the guy was only here for 5 years, so I really can't imagine how much worse things are there.
But yeah, just to make the main part of the house reasonably liveable, we hauled out a freakin convoy of large equipment trailer loads to the dump. We are slowly chipping away at the basement-- dozens of broken vacuum cleaners, coffee makers, dubious home canned goods, fans and air conditioners, all sorts of things that either got pee soaked and broke or rotted, or clogged with hair and abandoned. SO gross.
My best advice would be to take off baseboards, because there will be under and behind them.
As to downsizing your stuff, I don't have any meaningful advice. For me personally, my birds ARE the majority of my 'stuff', and as for Richard, well, we moved here so he would have more room for more stuff. But, I've heard it said, if you look at 'stuff', if it doesn't make you smile/bring joy, give it away or throw it out.

Re: Good Morning!
It's funny what you say about stuff. I could literally walk away from this house with just my back up drive with photography on it and the birds! I guess that's what moving countries does for you. If I find something I don't feel I need anymore it goes on the table at the end of the driveway and soon goes to be useful to someone, tee hee. WWW will tell you about the heirloom family silver plate we were supposed to keep forever, I mean really does anyone see us using that?

Re: Good Morning!
Since we got married, two half ton loads of "stuff" has disappeared each year from this farm. That's 21 years, (most stuff went when dad went to visit Germany).
I can't imagine what this place would be like with all that stuff still here.

Re: Good Morning!
I don't like stuff. I'm a bit of a minimalist. A divorce along the way helps with that too although I don't recommend that method lol. DH however has one of everything and a back-up. We are a complete odd couple. He gets a thought of "wouldn't it be neat to have *fill in the blank*" and it's there. Then it lives in it's own bedroom downstairs with all the other stuff.
I don't envy you BVF. There is nothing worse than pissy smell regardless what animal it came from.

Re: Good Morning!
BVF must be very difficult, such a huge change, at least you should be moving in to a nice house.
Like Kenya says, put your things in storage for a month and gut the sucker, you will never be able to get the smell out of some places and you don't want your things contaminated.
What a pain.

Re: Good Morning!
Thanks for the advice everyone! I'm very fortunate that the house we are moving into actually belongs to us... right now anyhow, lol. Its empty. Until this succession is final..... I have that house to do with what I can.... and yes, someone mentioned bleach and vinegar too. (not together, lol).
We took a whole livestock trailer full out today! Wow. What a difference!!
I loaded the attic with rat 'cookies'. I don't like making animals suffer dying from poisoning... but I'm taking back that damn house, lol.

Yes, there's a point where you have to be sensible, you're not running a vacation home for pests! ALl the best.

Re: Good Morning!
Well finished the flower bed today, all new triple mix and sieved reclaimed earth. Put back in the sedum and a lavender and it will get spring bulbs later. It looks so much cleaner and somehow more inviting to sit on the patio. One of those jobs we've wanted to do since we moved in 11 years ago! And as a final seal of approval the chooks have voted it the best dust bath EVER!!!! SO SIster wanted a short mingle with the others despite the kids and Frank, the rooster, was a bit confused but very kind with them and soon lost interest.
Hope you all had a good weekend.

Re: Good Morning!
My friendly Barn cat was locked in the pickup for 24 hrs. last week. (luckily parked under a tree) Peed twice and pooed once. Thankfully on the vinyl floor and not the seats. I hosed down the floor and scrubbed with javex. Still stinks!

Good morning to all! It's time to do some garden vegetable picking more often. But that's a good thing.
