After a long hot day, isn't it nice to open the window and fall asleep to fresh air and the sounds of tree toads, frogs, crickets etc, the peepers are finished now, I just went to go to sleep and since we are far from any neighbors it's usually very quiet. So why am I hearing thump, thump, thump, dance baby, oh yeah, dance baby. Suck it beiber fan or what ever other techno dance crap you are unleashing on us. Why is it that people come out for the peace and quiet of the country and then feel the need to hook up 20 speakers and place them out on a dock some where forcing us to listen to their bad taste in music. If I wanted to hear that, I would still be in the city, that twerp head! I will be sure to make noise at five in the morning.

Skinny...thats just far too common...its one reason i stopped going camping and utilizing provincial parks...i cant force people to conduct their lives to my way of doing things but generally speaking, regard for other people has gone out the window...its self gratification at all costs...there are far too many people in our world now for that attitude and its kind of back asswards...there was far more respect for your neighbour in years past when things were less crowded...I count myself soooo lucky to live where i live...

we had neighbour's kids here have a party one weekday yep, their summer break-graduation sleep over in tents on the lawn, firecrackers and the whole bit....they started at 11 and ended at 4am! well, i was up at 530 am to go to work and wouldn't you know, the truck alarm just started going off....still don't know why....to this day.....and the fans in the barn were malfunctioning and turning on way too early, and the roosters, oh my goodness, they figured out how to turn on the lights, with 16 roosters!!!! they were singing beautifully. and the one in the outside coop, well, he got out somehow, and when the motion light came on, he decided to sing along too! didn't want to be left out i guess. and well, wouldn't you know it, a deer ran across the road in front of me, right beside the lawn where they were sleeping in tents, and the darned thing stopped so i had to honk at it-twice-to get it to move..... sigh. and then one of the other neighbours was having tractor issues, the tranny must have jammed, because he was sitting just down from there on the road revving the engine....while the other guys were getting the manure spreader pumper trucks fired up.....

we heard via the grapevine the party was fun, but they couldn't wait to go home in the morning. wonder why? we're all wonderful neighbours...really...we just live in the country and get up with the sun....??!

My mother in law lives on a dirt road surrounded by mostly farms (like she's on). Well, don't you know the property east of her, which is mostly woods, sells to a couple that have "always wanted" to live in the country.
Guess what the first thing they do is. Put up 12 mega lights that run 24/7.
Next he puts up signs saying "wildlife sanctuary".
Haven't seen any bats, owls, rabbits or deer since that.
I don't understand these people.
Gone are the days at her place that we could sit out and star gaze!

What is it about lights on all the time?...i was driving into Ottawa the other day onto the 417 from the west end...the whole damn road is lined with these gargantuan light standards, must be 80-100 ft tall..look like something out of the war of the worlds...so please tell me, did i miss something or don't all motor vehicles have bright headlights?... You can't walk or bicycle on that highway so whats with the lighting?... It must cost a fortune initially to install and more to run and maintain...and there are no stars at night..gah, sometimes i just shake my head and go back to my darkness..

we have motion lights "just in case" we end up running around flipping breakers all the time so the dogs don't trip them when we sit out at night. the funniest.....and i mean, i was laughing so hard i cried, was having "city company" come and visit, it was dark, we have 112 acres...not a LITTLE bit of open space, 112 acres of it! and could these people turn their car around in the dark without almost hitting the barn, the fence post, or the solar panel, or the shed???? NOT. this is the ONLY reason we have motion lights. so the citiots can get out of the driveway at night....
the minute i cannot see the stars out there, i am moving again further from civilization

Gotta say we're fencing and the 16ft gate gap is beginning to look small! Funny thing here is that although there may be a loud bang at dusk, nobody asks or investigates.

The latest at my place is "someone" (we're pretty sure it's the neighbor 3 lots north) complained about our stack of wood part way down the driveway. It's only one row, about 6 ft tall and very neatly stacked.
This guy moved up here 3 years ago, ripped out most of his forest, planted grass, put a km long paved driveway in, planted non native trees, lights all along his driveway (on 24/7) and (wait for it) put a huge gate with card lock security and 3 cameras.
Really? What is he afraid of? Why even bother moving up here? We have never seen him out, think he stays in house(giant by the way) almost all the time.
When we moved here 25 years ago, all the old timers told us never close your gate. People will think you have something worth stealing. Good advise. Never had an issue. Beware of dogs sign also helps.
Well, that's my daily rant about city moving to country.
