NO workplace injuries in 113 years, but a pencil-pusher has decided the equipment is unsafe for employees. Ugh.

I heard this and instantly was absolutely angry. i guess the issue is that there are moving belts that are not protected so a worker could get entangled, and that the flour samples have to be retrieved by hand from between SLOW MOVING rollers. they could easily fix the second by giving training to use a long handled spoon to retrieve the samples.....but the way it's laid out with the belts, i'm not sure how they could install guards. unfortunately i can see why the problems were flagged, but there's GOT to be some way to come to some agreement.....something. maybe someone could fabricate some plexiglass cages? even welded wire cages....just something that someone couldn't stick a hand through. sigh.
too many rules. and too much inflexibility for the situation.

it's like driving...so many rules..speed limits, seat belts, hands free yadda yadda yadda. want people to ACTUALLY drive safer? install an iron spike sticking out of the steering wheel. how many people will drive like idiots with that in front of them??! LOL. i know, not really practical, but still...when do we stop getting "ruled" to death?

Lol, I am training some new guys (life insurance and investments) and I say it all the time: there's rules you follow, rules you bend, and rules you break.

E.g. I got in hot water with the compliance people: i had engaged in "other activities" and had not informed head office: 1. I play Santa Clause for a local parade, 2. i gave one of my clients who is an avid gardener a truckload of manure (OMG that could be inducing a client to do business rather than relying on the merits of the investment, or rebating, or in some way compensating a client when they don't have a license (gimme a freakin break))
3. I earned $800 selling firewood to neighbours (my exercise and stress reduction program; aka chainsaw therapy) none of whom are clients
4. i volunteer one day a year to run a Tae Kwon Do Tournament

The compliance officer told me that if I want to set up a table for a charity yard sale I must ask permission from Head Office first. Really? That's a securities violation? Sheesh

My husbands boss had a chat with them the other day. This is a business with many unsafe pieces of machinery and a record of accidents. He informed them that they must no longer report accidents to the WSIB and that he will pay them for any time off incurred! he has done this to people in the past and they ended up with secondary problems he wasn't interested in. Hubby had a gash on his head that required 9 staples to close at the hospital but the boss tried to tell him to get over it and use a band aid. My IDIOT husband went back to work the next day although I swear he was concussed for a few days. He admitted he shouldn't have gone back later. However despite several workplace inspections nothing gets done and no notice is taken. How does this happen????? A good business with a great safety record is semiclosed now though. SOunds like someone had an axe to grind.
