I'm just sick at this fire......... and our leader's actions and responses, turning down help..... Is he giving the finger to the West in fine family tradition again? GGrrrrr. My heart goes out to the people of the area, how truly dreadful. I had high hopes for some new blood in parliament but so far.......... not impressed. Ugh, politicians.

I'm not so sure that a bit of foreign help wouldn't help at least a bit. Not sure what the thinking is on that. Maybe the powers that be are saving up foreign favours for something really big? Like this isn't really big. smh.
And yes, I remember that remark, KB. I think that it originated from Manitoba when the ice storm hit. Or was it when the entire Eastern seaboard power grid went down? Don't remember what it was now. Some people are just plain mean spirited.
I do agree though - they need rain, and lots of it. But not all at once, please. Don't want to have them go straight from fire to flood. I'm praying for a break in the weather for Fort Mac, Alberta.

I wish people would give Trudeau a chance. Maybe at the end of the first term we will know if he is any good.

Giving to the red cross may help. I donated. I hope my money goes for good things, not to line the pockets of the powers that be.

Cheers, Young Lady!!

The Red Cross is doing wonderful things, and raising LOTS of money to help these folks in their time of need.(something over 50 million so so far) Mr. Trudeau and his government have promised to to match the donations dollar for dollar, and I believe they will live up to that promise, and probably more.

Decisions were made not to call in the water bombers from the BC coast, and not to accept the Russian offer of water bombers. Apparently the way the fire is moving would make such efforts useless. That is according to the fire fighting officials, not the politicians.

I truly hope that all efforts to get this monster blaze under control succeed as soon as possible, and PLEASE Mother Nature, kill the wind and give them some rain.

And far more importantly, I hope that all the folks that had had their lives disrupted so disastrously can find a clear path to a return to HOME and normality as soon as possible.

We, all of us Canadians, WILL be affected by this disaster in the coming future. The economic devastation will NOT be confined to Alberta. (a truly beautiful province, I lived there for many years) It will be felt throughout the Canadian and North American economy, and there may be an impact globally due to the reduction of dirty oil production. (yes I strongly feel that the oilsands suck)

We have not heard the last of this. It will go on for quite a long while.

I feel deep sorrow for the folks of Fort McMurray. Nobody should ever have to go through this sort of horror. May you all come through it intact, and with the fortitude to regroup and rebuild. It will be a tough go, but you hearty Canadians have what it takes to get through.

I only wish that I, myself, could do more to contribute to the recovery effort. Please, let us all, do anything and everything that we can. They need our help, whether it be moral, financial, or spiritual. (or all of the above)
