Went out to the coop a few minutes ago, lotsa 'let us outta here' noises like usual...open the door and there a dead hen...not quite a year old...no damage..no blood, no ruffled upset, just dead at the base of the main roost..I hate when this happens....would rather just have an obvious cause....here we go...smh

Sorry, I agree it is easier to accept when you know the actual cause.

Sorry to hear Tom it Might have been the heart- :-( my Cornish rooster just dropped dead like that, looking fine one minute, dead the next.

Yeah, Robbie...hoping thats what it was....one of the two remaining ones without a bald butt too...hmmm

sorry man it sure does suck. when we were moving I witnessed my Jersey giant rooster have a heart attack. it was one of the most crazy friggin things iv ever seen and totally sucked. he was walking around eating then all the sudden he flipped up in the air, went into convulsions and was dad 30 seconds later.

You could process her and have a good look at her organs to see if you could find the cause or send her to the university that does necropsies sp? for cheap...

That's too bad, without any symptoms it's hard to tell, just wondering we had that conversation about the "supper layers" bare bums,
since you mentioned this one didn't have it, I wonder if she was laying?

Its a fair question, OC....but there are days when i got 13 eggs from 13 birds so yes, i think so...but egg bound?... I don't know too much about that or symptoms..

I had one of my Shamo hens go same way yesterday... saw her in the morning... nothing unusual... dinner time, she was laying flat out in the stall. Sometimes, it's just their time...at least she had a great life up til then and made me some nice babies!!
