Not at all surprised that Durham is high on the predator damage list. And obviously the numbers are higher than what gets reported.

Waupoos is nuts for coyotes and the farmer in the article is our neighbour. They run 2000 head of sheep and pasture them on the island. Last winter we had a coyote living in our hay mow....no fear.

No reason to fear if no one shooting / hassling at them . Do they chase um with hounds up there?

Oh they get shot! and yes there are dogs that are used. they just honestly have no fear, last summer one was laying under the shade of the dump truck in the neighbours driveway....he was dispatched with promptly. I don't let my daughter out in our yard unless one of our dogs is out with her to sound an alarm!
The school board I work for 2-3 times a year clears the playground and brings the kids inside because of bears. We have had 2 black bears killed here in Waupoos in the last 6 years.

Interesting info. A neighbour of ours from down the road a km or so, stopping in on Sunday said a bear killed 2 of their lambs last week. Hopefully it stays away from our place.

Last fall a bear went into the village next to me and cleaned out a friend's rabbits, he had about 12 nice big meat rabbits that he kept as a hobby and it ate all of them. It started to wander around the village during the day until finally someone shot the thing, a person never knew when it was going to show up. I almost hit it on my way to work one morning. Came running out from behind parked cars, wasn't expecting to see a bear in the middle of the street!
