Anybody here spy on their incubator via wifi?

Post by kdms » Tue Apr 26, 2016 2:17 pm

I'm on my kids teachers speed dial for the next three weeks and would really like to be able to monitor what's going on without having to leave my desk - my boss is only so tolerant of our chicken obsession.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a wifi enabled decent camera I could put into the incubator (and then the brooder) that I could access via remote internet pc and also android app? I'd like live streaming (audio would be a bonus) but definitely access via PC is necessary because live streaming from my phone would bankrupt me on data charges.

tks!

Having tried, your bigger problem is your internet provider. If you are lucky, they provide a "static IP address" that allows you to change your router settings to route outside internet requests to your camera. You will need to change a few settings in your router to make it work.
If you are unlucky, your internet provider does not offer it (or only for a lot of extra $$). Like Xplornet satellite.

If you are stuck on that hurdle, you can still upload your camera pictures to a website and have the people watch from there (not live stream).
Or you can setup teamviewer (free for non commercial use) to dial into your desktop from the outside. They have apps for android, too. That usually works best if the camera comes with software to show it on the screen (most IP cameras do, webcams I am not sure of).

As to the hardware, they are not much different. TP link makes decent ones (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... -_-Product), but they really don't differentiate much.
If you have your computer right next to the incubator, you might be able to get away with a webcam like this one: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... -_-Product

If you put it inside the incubator/hatcher, watch the humidity rating, you might have to go with an outdoor version that comes with an enclosure. We had another topic here earlier for putting one in a coop.

My hubby bought me one as a Christmas prezzie for in the coop. It is wifi capable, but not HD. I don't have it hooked up to wifi, but that's in the plans INF. I'm happy to be able to check in on my girls after work, and during the day on the weekends. It's a TENVIS. Made in China. I'm happy with it - it does what I need it to do. I would have to check on the model #. It could work for you, I think.
