Re: Good Morning!
Good morning! Finally, some colder weather, although a little late in the year. Its been a slippery mud fest... the top layer (no snow), melts just enough, with the ground slightly frozen (where there is NO grass), and driving to the cabin with the golf cart is sometimes impossible, lol.
Sawyer and I went after his schooling last Friday, drove to the cabin, put a fire on, then walked thru the bush, crossed the tracks, and followed the stream to where a sign that said NO trespassing stopped us. Sawyer wanted to go further, (and I wanted to show him a shack I'd found in the past walking there ), but I told him we had to respect the sign. It was fun.
Dave had been working on a skating rink, and yesterday was the first time the two kids Sawyer and Jacob went on. Where the liner was on the ground, you could poke it with your finger, and it was just like a waterbed liner, water wasn't frozen, and likely won't be, as the ground under it won't ever freeze, I'm wondering. The very first time we tried filling the rink, the hose ran for 9 hours, and it didn't really fill it much. 2 days later.... you could see it was leaking. BAD. Even tho Heather got a liner from C. Tire... it had seams, and it was totally NOT for a rink. Dave exchanged the liner, for one that had NO seams, and in 4 hours, the thing was SO full!! So, not only was the ground minimally frozen, it sure wasn't after all that water seeped away.
So.. here is what we did last night, and it was so much fun!! We roasted hot dogs, and marshmallows, and the kids (and Dave... he didn't go on it yesterday afternoon, he was afraid the ice would crack with his weight... but he just couldn't stay off it last night, lol.. as he helped Grace skate, which she hated, and her ear piercing scream relayed that.... its a wonder the police weren't called by someone in the village.. gawd that kid has staying power) all had super fun.
Here is the picture of before the fun.
I just got a text from Melissa, I had forgotten I was go go sit with the kids today, while she heads for a dentist appointment. Ugh. Not babysitting Sawyer today, but will for at least 3 days this week.... its sure a struggle sitting there, while he tries to do online schooling. If he doesn't know how to get into certain places on the computer, I sure don't. And the kid cannot sit still at the table, and learn, without fiddling and moving around on his chair. Its hard for me to sit still on the couch, and concentrate on him keeping him focused, and read my book. I'm NOT happy being in the house all day. So, when he has gym class, and has to jump around watching a video and doing exercise we head outside, and usually go to the bush, lol. When there was a skiff of snow, I would pull him to the hills on his GT sno-racer, and he would toboggan down the hills. I made him walk back up with the sled a few times, making sure he got tired, lol. They are massive hills, and I can only do it once, ha ha.

Re: Good Morning!
good morning everyone
Well, that 1 squall....that sat overnight....sat right east of me....and the driving today is wretched. is that still a word? wretched? anyways, roads were not fun this morning. Have to get some more feed soon, and have heard rumours that everything is up at least 2$ a bag because of the new carbon tax. i'll see when i pick it up. Still feels weird around the farm without the 2000 pound woolly mammoth....i don't hear molly walking at all, where ted's footsteps shook the house! She completely scared me yesterday-i was out putting some seed in the bird feeder and popped into the field to go and find her. she was NOT at the gate, but when i got back from going around the barn she was right at the corner of the barn and i didn't hear her coming at all! she startled me-face to face coming around the corner, and i startled her....funny as all get out. she's doing really really awesome! apparently she has 7 steady friends LOL. there are 7 deer that come around every night and either share some hay or stay just in the corn about 10 feet from the fence and they are there for HOURS. they've been bedding down in the corn close to the fence of the east paddock-seriously 20 feet from the hay bale. so. i think she might have been moonlighting on ted. LOL. it's nice to see her happy and not pining. i was worried about that. phew.
looks like i've finally found enough heated buckets that are heated enough to withstand -20C. should hopefully get through the winter now! people down here are getting set up for maple syrup season. Tapping will begin next week down here. hard to believe! usually production starts the 2nd or 3rd week of february!
@TomK i had his twin a few years ago! mine was actually lemon, split gold and silver. i can't really tell from the photo (or my computer monitor colours) but is he actually light yellow on the hackles there? he's super cute. and an awesome split comb to boot!

Re: Good Morning!
Good morning,
something about brass monkeys comes to mind, as I ran out our the house without gloves my hand pretty much froze to the railing... apparently wisdom doesn't come automatically with age :)
Still seem to be the only visitor to the local skating ring, me and the puppy and the guy who looks after the rink , we may be developing an across the soccer field relationship, the puppy is wagging her tail at him, although being a Golden retriever, she wags her tail at everybody :)
Absolutely best move this year has been the espresso machine purchase, having an espresso made for me every morning feels very luxurious and completely cancels any wish for a visit to a cafe.
Havn't been able to get quick blending flour from IGA on line, so ventured to Sobeys yesterday morning, there were 2 customers and 4 employees at 8:30am, the place looks like it's going out of business, the blocked off isles are empty, the rest are half empty and most of the merchandise is on sale at half price. Probably better selection at the local Gas station store.
BTW I did get the flour :)
Have a safe one !

Re: Good Morning!
That's funny OC. We bought a Nespresso Pixie that is the most wonderful thing EVER! I am on rationing but it works great. SInce we don't take milk or sugar we don't need anything fancy.
I also think we need a Puppy Pic update @Ontario Chick
