Re: Good Morning!
Not one to quote a bible, but there is a saying which I had to call on this past January, when DH decided he couldn't do the barn chores anymore, and was feeling badly about it.... which meant to let go of a hobby of past 40+ years...
"there is a time and season for everything"
hard to let go of things we really like , but it may well leave more time for other things that we will enjoy in the future, and be a bit easier on the old bod (although yours isn't all that old :) )

Ah sorry to hear this, sometimes we just caught up with too much to do. Hope you can keep a couple just for fun.
Hope your back feels better soon.

Re: Good Morning!
@WLLady it seems to me that you are a doer. You are going to "do" something at all times. Everytime I read your posts of all of your long list of accomplishments for the day I am amazed at not just the quantity but also the variety that you dive into. My guess is that if you sell all of your poultry it will not be long before that hobby gets replaced with something else. Just be sure that's what you want. It would be horrible for you to look back in regret. A lot of people ask me if keeping chicken's is a lot of work. I usually reply that it is as much work as you would like it to be- meaning I don't see it as work. It's part of my life and part of who I am. I guess when it does start to feel like work it's time to rethink. I hope you find some relief and some answers very quickly.

Re: Good Morning!
Giving up chickens maybe harder than you think, I agree with @Happy . Chickens are only as much work as you want to put into them. I also don't find it work. Hang in there @WLLady you are stronger than you think.

Re: Good Morning!
LOL thanks guys. yes, "before" the chickens weren't really work, and i love just being around them and i honestly do not mind doing chores! it's my time! but i need to be able to walk TO the barn....my DH has never ending patience. I need to get on the phone today and see if i can even get through to the surgeon. I just hope winter holds off a little longer with needing heated dishes and stuff. I'm feeling a bit better today pain wise, so hopefully it's just angry muscles....fingers crossed.

Re: Good Morning!
Little bit of truth in both @Happy and @Kbr42 comments but I never found any chores around the barn actual work, could spent hours watching chickens being chickens, better then anything on TV,
BUT, getting to the barn in winter time has become a problem and it didn't matter if there were 6 chickens or 60
Somebody had to get the snow blower out and somebody had to clear the way to the barn, so it was time for reality check at our place
I our case advanced age played a role too in making the decision

Re: Good Morning!
Must admit that when I had to give up an expensive hobby a few years ago (Competition Skeet Shooting) because we were both laid off, I found it easier to make a clean break rather than trying to "just shoot a few" for fun. Circumstances did not allow us to shoot and compete at the level I enjoyed shooting at. We kept in touch with a few people but tht really didn't work for us. No regrets that we did it that way either. Everything depends on the individual and the circumstances.

Good evening I haven't been here for awhile I hope everyone is well as can be. I hope you can get things fixed up soon WLLady.
Not much new here, I kind of bit of more than I could chew as I was recovering from my double bypass so in the end most of my garden and bird projects did not really do very well. Oh well hopefully better luck next year.
Not much exciting happening on the bird front here, culled a few older birds, will need to look for a few replacements sometime, especially turkeys.
Spent most of my summer salmon fishing on Lake Ontario.
Heart surgery recovery went well, still some issues with nerves and muscles in arm where they removed my artery, but hoping that continues to improve.
Currently teaching high school chemistry online from home to decrease chances of catching Covid.
Well that's all for now. I hope everyone has a good night.
