I noticed them at Fortinos and Atwater Market too. I don't go shopping much so I don't know how long they have been around since I noticed. I am the go down every aisle and look at everything type though...LOL

 My name is Killerbunny and I am a poultholic.

I was just wondering the other day. Do Indian chickens have a high resistance to heat? Every chicken I've had suffers when it is above 30 degrees but the temperatures in India can go into the forties.

I found Stephanie. She will check her flock for extra "pet" birds. I love raising chicks but I don't want to raise 0 hens and 5 roosters. so I asked her for adults. She said she never has problems with the male D'Uccles damaging the feathers on the backs of the hens. Also she said she has never had an aggressive D'Uccles rooster. I said I was worried my nephew (6 months) and newborn in July might get attacked by a rooster so I only wanted hens, but I don't mind a rooster if it doesn't attack people.

Has anyone calculated the cost of an egg at a "hobby farm" assuming you don't factor in the cost of a coop?

I found this based on selling eggs at $8/dozen so it generates negative income.

Weekly income from eggs $60
Weekly cost of feed while laying - $32
Weekly cost of feed while not laying - $9
Weekly cost of calcium - $0.33
Weekly cost of care labour - $26.25
Weekly depreciation of coop - $2.33
Weekly depreciation of run - $3.13
Weekly cost of harvest labour - $8.75
Weekly cost of insurance - $8
Balance - $29.79

Don't even think about it - that way lies madness!
I know at $7/lb I can't cover my turkeys! I only sell a few to help out though.
