thanks for sharing your unfortunate story StarViewRidge... that is incredibly frustrating and ridiculous.

well we've been cooking on the wood stove... were cooking a beef roast right now and omg does it ever smell delicious, doing the wash in off peak times and in cold water... we make our own laundry soap so we wernt sure if it would work but it does as long as we mix it in the water first. we've implemented other changes as well...

change our whole lives to under cut the scam... ill tell you what though.... I used to be a reptile breeder with 100+ animals, each cage had at least a 100watt bulb, under tank heaters and flourescent bulbs on a heck of a lot of tanks/cages and caging systems.... and many fish tanks including a beautiful salt water tank... I NEVER had 1 crazy bill like this and well im glad I got out before the crazy hikes in prices!

we have 1 corn snake with a heat pad and thats it.

my new motto is, "if I cant eat it I dont need it!"

Our house 2400sqft cost about $3200 last year. That's an all electric house thermostats on everything, upped insulation walls, roof etc. Includes flat panels and lights in the coops. I won't complain about that BUT I did have an issue when they went to TOU. I was keeping tabs on what I was using and a good job too. I would have a big bake day every couple of weeks. Use went up because of range - fine. Then I noticed that that became a regular high use day if you did it 2 weeks in a row. I caught it because I was checking but they finally admitted they had been estimating peak useage based on who knew what. All got sorted in the end but I still have a problem getting them to understand that I want to keep my monthly payments the same (higher than necessary) because the computer says my usage has decreased - no kidding, it's august and I'm not heating. Gotta wonder.

Re. the power outage when the grid went down, I was on duty at Pickering Nuclear when it happened and I can tell you that there were a lot of anxious moments with staff trying to figure out why 6 reactors were shutting themselves down (poisoning out), all at the same time.
