welcome to summer! LOL. sure is warm! looks like it will be that way till tomorrow..... :wee:

hope everyone had an awesome weekend!
Good Morning, another warm day, I don't think we have EVER been this ready for winter, this has been like a month long getting ready?
It would be pretty funny if it wasn't a bit scary.
We have been playing this "name the month" game since March and accept July, none of the weather was quite seasonal.
Today....definitely October.....
Have a good one!

Can't say i'm surprised about the rabies....if it's in one coon, it's in 10. hopefully it stays out of the skunks and bats...and hopefully people wake up and vaccinate their animals. what i can't believe is i got an email the other day asking if i knew anyone that would foster care those 2 dogs that got in a fight and got bitten by the rabid coon in the animal control van. what are they thinking? Those animals will likely come down with rabies, because the virus is transmitted in saliva. the coon was rabid, that means it was shedding virus, and now they want to foster out the dogs??! they were talking about taking them out of the hamilton area to possibly windsor or sarnia....way to move the virus folks....those dogs could harbour the virus unknown for up to 90 days, then become symptomatic and spread rabies there. awesome idea....sigh. some people just don't understand the virology of rabies. best is to put them in quarantine for 90 days at a vet's somewhere and that way when they become ill they can be properly handled, and not spread the disease! but these folks didn't want to pay for food at the vets for 90 days. i just do not understand what some people are thinking. these are dogs, that could very well be infected, and just not showing symptoms....it's a definite nightmare waiting to happen if they are fostered out.

I miss the snow from the past couple years! Can't have it all I guess. Next year maybe.. Weather always cycles.

I have to get my cats vaccinated.

Why would that even be a possibility Kathy? are these dogs not confiscated as a result of this? when does science ever come into the picture? bullets are cheap... problem solved!

Its an animal rescue trying to do this....they are at the vet right now but of course that costs money...the vet wants to quarantine for 90 d but that also costs money. I am with you al....

so what I get from this is that there is no legal protocols that enforce a quarantine/euthanasia like there is when something threatens our food stock... ex the Ai outbreak... When i was a kid our dog Tippy got in a fight with a rabid fox. he was confiscated for i dont remember how long and then quarantined for a year in a kennel at my grandmas house. He was vaccinated and this is the only reason he survived, this was in 88-89ish... same time we moved to Windsor for a year so it might just have been he was quarantined for so long because of all the life changes happening in our lives. the cops came and shot the fox which did test positive, and animal control confiscated Tippy. Well Tippy lived for 17 years! we lost him xmas day 97, poor guy got out and hit by a car! he was partially blind. the guy that hit him did the right thing, brought him home and apologized like crazy. we didnt like that guy very much before then, but that must have took a lot of balls to do that. Tippy was a beagle, born at my grandmas and whenever he escaped he would head to grandmas house... just give him about 3 hours and go pick him up. i think thats what we all did whenever "we" escaped LOL... headed to grandmas house. :rooster-171:
