Well I have a total of 2 hens laying, 2 silkie girls, and knowing them it won't be long as they will go broody already have another silkie broodie.

My oldest Wyandottes 4 & 5 years respectively have just started again, nothing out of the 5 month old pullets, althoug the person who got half of those chicks is already getting some "starter" eggs.
2 eggs a day means really slow Christmas baking but not really willing to buy eggs, so patience rules the day here. :)

I don't blame you OC, after I sold my chickens last year I was totally grossed out with the store bought eggs. I find a strong sulfur smell and taste. This year I have about seven that are old enough to lay as of now. I am getting 3 to 5 eggs without any lights or heat so I think that is good. There are some reaching the four months mark so they should start in January. My mother hen wanted to hatch about three weeks ago again and when I stopped her, she punished me by quitting laying and started molting.

she's just doing what comes natural this time a year when large sudden changes made like eggs taken away . Luck

Hey everyone
we have NO entries so far for januarys photo contest. So unless you all want to be stuck with my photo of whatever i choose i would suggest you get outisde (or even stay inside....) with your camera.....we will keep submissions open until 11pm on the 24th.

In other news we were supposed to fly to germany today actually.....and yesterday ended up in the vet clinic emergency for our one dog that decided to rupture the tumour on his tail which until thursday had been totally stable for 5 years.....so. dog has surgery on monday and we arent going to germnay. Kinda sucks. Actually a lot.....playing vet 4 times a day and trying to keep the blood cleaned up and i need to clean the truck today from the vet trip yesterday.....fun fun fun. I guess good news is all the laundry is done, the house is clean and the barn is clean......so.....guess we need to hit the grocery store at some point today....and maybe i will use the 2 weeks to regrout the bathroom tile, which i havent had the time or energy to do the last 2 years. The time is booked off work and we are slowly but surely being snowed in down here.....so. may as well get this stuff done.

Huge bummer WLLady!!! But I commend you on staying home for the sake of the dawg :). You do sound as if you're going to make the best of it though - good for you!

I have read that those large hair rollers work to protect a constantly-wagging injured tail which can bash on things, but there's probably something more modern that can be used these days.

I dont think my dog has the capacity to know anything right now lol. He has mast cell tumours, so they secrete a lot of histamines when they get angry so lots of itching, and the "cure" is antihistamines....think a people dose of benadryl every 12 hours in a 70 pound dog.....and he refuses to sleep so hes staggering around with his eyes half closed and his brain turned off running into everything with the cone....lol. if we put the cone on him he is miserable and will NOT even lay down....he cant sit because this thing is at the base of his tail so he fusses and paces....but if we are close to him (same room) and take off the cone and make sure he doesnt go after the bandaging he settles some-and his snores can shake the house!!....and worst still he loves his crate but cannot turn around with his cone on in his crate (he does not have reverse gear-never has....) so he gets stuck in his crate and then whines because its the end of his world!!!! Lol. Going to be a quiet weekend of hanging out in the living room.....and they will fix him up on monday. Then we will have our hyper active bouncing spawn of evil back. I hate it when my animals dont feel well.....so unfair to them because they dont understand it.....
smoothing things over with the family too....and hubby got the driveway plowed, the snowballs stopped falling from the sky about an hour ago....it is super pretty outside

Ugh! I hate the effects of Benadryl, but it's the best for reaction to bee stings, etc. We were recently talking about quercetin on a doggy email list, so I found this link for you in case it's of any help: http://www.dogsnaturallymagazine.com/na ... quercetin/

We finally broke down and bought the inflatable "cone" which is more comfy than the lampshade model at least. Before that, I rigged up my own "cones" using bath towels suitably folded and secured with a belt or large collar. They worked well enough after spay surgery.

I also have a lab with no reverse gear. Too funny. She sometimes gets "stuck" between the furniture. She's a little retarded but we love her.
