Still pretty brutal at times, but on the whole i'm doing really great! really really glad that i can look back and say "yes, this was the right thing to do". i do wish i would start sleeping better.....the stiff and sore at night is getting better slowly, i'm sure in a little while it'll be fine. but i've had about 5 years of waking up multiple times during the night, and i need to retrain myself to not do that anymore. hopefully it'll click soon! and my left leg is still surprisingly weak from the muscle testing....i was shocked....i thought it was way further along than that, but the surgeon and students didn't seem very surprised given it wasn't working at all before surgery.

i can catch chickens and turkeys again! and lift them! and carry them around! i love that when i carry a turkey they still bob their head like they are walking when i walk.....it's amusing :-)
looking forward to saturday! 5 more sleeps to the piknik!
we have the firepit ready-a sunflower was growing right beside it, so we dug it up and moved it....lol. now it's ready for fire! and we're watering our poor yellow grass so hopefully we'll have some half decently soft grass for the lawn chairs.
y'all might want to bring bug spray. we will have some deet too if you don't....the mosquitos were horrid yesterday evening! we ended up giving up and moving into the house. so i would suggest bug spray. we were pretty good for bugs, until yesterday. gah!

busy weekend-company on friday, then saturday woke up and the turkeys had pulled down the fence dividing their pens, so we spent saturday putting in plywood and restringing wire. did a bit of weeding, moved the guineas back to the garden coop. flipped out a rooster for a hen for a fellow down near sarnia....then sunday did NOTHING. well, i swept the barn. and tried to tidy up a bit in there, because it's a bit embarrassing with all the dust and cobwebs and mice LOL. i can't have everyone coming for a bbq and have my barn look like that!!!!! forwarned, anyone complains, i'll put ya to work! HA HA!

lots of straw being taken off here this weekend. love the smell of the hay and straw at this time of year.
calling for a 20% chance of rain here on saturday-aka no rain! fingers crossed!

hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Do we need to start tagging and harassing people to sign up for the 2017 picnic?? I had to do it last year, I hated every second but I WILL do it again! Several of us Eastern people have said they'd travel to this year's BBQ, but haven't signed up with 5 days left to go, and this 2nd annual PTO picnic is being held physically CLOSER to most of the board's participants than last year! C'mon, people! Bring food! Trade chicks and eggs and vegetable seeds! Put faces to names and make valuable new connections!

Well the little chick that got the eye problem has now opened her eye properly and it looks OK. Seems like she can also see in it!=

YAY for the chick. BOOO for the picnic KB.
ah well.....next year!

another hot hot sunny day. we need rain at my place. bigtime! have to get some animals moved around very very soon, and set up new breeding groups and all that. i took the broody mom (i have her pic in the contest, which i didn't win AGAIN!!!! LOL come on guys, she's a cute wheaten ee....with BABIES!) and threw her and her chicks into a pen with about 50 chicks. she doesn't know what to do with them all! last night she was trying to feed each one sunflower seeds and trying to mother all of them. she's a trooper. LOL.
she still has her 5 chicks hanging close. as soon as they get lost in the crowd i'll move her back out to her own pen with the the other ees and an ameraucana boy. so she can have a rest from rearing kids.

have to finish moving birds out before end of august....self imposed time limit. so i can feign some semblence of being organized. LOL
hope everyone is having a good day.

Wow she's an impressive little hen! My broodies have wanted to kill any other chicks around. I almost lost one yesterday to Little's grasp when it looked to long in her direction.
