Re: Good Morning!
Weather seems to have finally broken. Had the air off and windows open last night. Get up this morning to 17 or so with a breeze. Feels good. Now a little rain would help but doesnt look like it. No mosquitoes anyway, but those stable flies are at it some. The Catherine has been at her moms, comes home today, yay. Bunch of hens wanting to set, so only 6 or so eggs a day. Garden doing fine. Life is good.

Re: Good Morning!
Morning all,
Well, one fox down. 2 more to go-unless they stay away. I hope they stay away because i hate killing them. Birds have been out since 7am and it's super quiet out here today so far. so fingers crossed. We've been trying to scare them off for the last 3 days. hopefully it has worked this time.
Coons at the neighbours too. gah. everything is out to get the chickens!
Dried some herbs the last few days.....lots and lots of parsley and tarragon. Need to check the garlic, harvested it on the weekend. Trying to move some muscovies, but people seem to be more "into" chickens these days. LOTS of tire kickers....no, they DO need heat.....yes, that means a heat plate or brooder plate or lamp.....NO they aren't ready to free range at 3 days old. Yes, the older ones that can free range are 20$ each. NO i will not sell an adult for 8$. and NO you cannot take them all for 50$. Sheesh. and i am refusing to sell to folks in London because of the bylaws, and so many animals being dumped or surrendered to shelters.
Very glad the weather is cooler. Need more rain still....always.

Re: Good Morning!
So 8 Marans eggs, one hatched, so an only child to be raised. One other one developed but didnt make it out of the shell. The other 6 werent fertile I guess, no development. Got three others setting right now.
The wonderful one is back from her mothers, gee she's crabby when she gets back, but only lasts a day or so if I just smile and say "Yes dear."
Bugs like fruit flies swarming around the eye hole of that one eyed chicken, peroxide and iodine last eve. Wish it would heal shut. Not sure if she is going to make it.

Re: Good Morning!
Morning everyone; been a while since I made it here in the a.m.
Weeds in the veggie garden are doing too well; what a chore.
Later, I want to post a pic of a certain weed that I cannot identify.
We've been letting both halves of our flock, young and old, out to free range together for a couple weeks now. Mother hen has had enough, plus she has laid some eggs. Then we separate them again when they get back into the fenced yard for the night.
