Actually its below average for me for chickens. That old sportsman is more reliable than my mother's Toyota.

Good morning everyone!

don't forget to RSVP for the bbq if you are coming-just drop one of the admins a message and we'll get you added to the 2017 PiKnik topic! August 5-6 is the date this year.

also don't forget to vote for the photo of the month! we'll also be taking submissions for the next month's photo contest, so get out those cameras.

does anyone know if hagersville is having a sale on friday? it being the canada day holiday for those of us that work....??
not much else new round my place. lettuce is being eaten from the garden, peas are almost ready, potatoes are flowering, little green tomatoes on the tomatoes, i have one over achieving pepper plant with a pepper almost as long as the plant is tall.....go figure. cabbage is cabbaging....or whatever it's called when they start making heads. herbs are going like mad, need to get them picked and dried soon.
next hatch to lock down sometime in the next couple of days i think. then i have to see what i have for persons that preordered. i think i'm going to be short on welsummers. oh well. it happens.
2 pens of fuzzybutts to clean tonight. moved the turkeys on sunday to the barn, an en masse quiet walk from the one coop to the barn. actually went very well until one decided to climb into a bucket and couldn't get out. buckets spilling over ensued, and turkeys were then ALL over the barn....but we got them into the stall without too much ado. and they seem to be enjoying not having pesky cockerels mixed in with them.

hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning
After dropping off the eggs at the millpond hatchery, and stopping for a bit in the beautiful Northumberand county
We had couple of spectacular storms on the weekend topped off with good dose of hail, at which point the internet crap*ed out completely at exactly the same moment I realized I missed birthday of both my grand daughter and my daughter in law. I guess when it doesn't rain it pours.

the flax is really nice, like really really finely chopped straw with the bonus treats (leftover flax seeds) included. easy to scoop and not dusty. alas, cannot find anything like it down this way....
must be a bit like what we use to bed the cow barn. I use it in the coop too. We have a company in the next town that makes erosion blankets out of straw and the tiny pieces that fall out are then compacted in big wire tied bales and sold as waste straw....GREAT bedding, the challenge is to get it home and stacked in the shed without the bale falling apart....and it HAS to be well tarped for the ride else it will all blow away before it gets here, lol

guess I'm a little late to be saying good morning, I'm back in from the barn for lunch. My broody is still happily sitting on her nest in the bunny hutch and another is now in the hutch beside her. Oh how I love watching the cats prowl by hoping to get at those eggs...eat DIRT kitties! Dang cats sit around waiting for a hen to announce she's laid an egg then they munch it open and lick it clean. I have 14 young hens roaming the farm and the other 16 are kept inside the coop so I get eggs. Those girls get to roam about an hour before sundown after I've collected their eggs ....funny to see them storm out....some flying...all in a hurry to get some dirt scratching in before they return to the coop for the night and I shut the door.
Picked sour cherries yesterday...spent an hour pitting them this morning then jarred them and pressure cooked them for 5 minutes. Happy with myself till I opened the pressure cooker and found one of the quart jars had burst out the bottom...the hens will appreciate the quart of sweetened cherries I'm sure but it didn't make me happy!

Good morning,
Where is everybody?
I know there is grass to cut and garden to weed and chickens to watch and Canada Day beer to buy and turkey to deep fry, but seriously we need to hear from YOU to know all is well in the poultry world :)

Don't want to offend but I'm changing the words to All Things Bright & Beautiful
He sends the snow in winter
The warmth to swell the grain
The breezes and the sunshine
And YET MORE P**ssing rain!
When is it all going to stop???
