He'll get back to me between classesthegawd wrote:gm dosent care anymore... I mean why should they when they have more money than most of the worlds countries. this will be gms downfall... and thats why I like proven technology and will stick with 97-99 gm/chevy. do you have the 5.3l with afm? if so you gotta get that afm shut off or you will kill your engine anywhere from now to under 80 000 kms....
Im on GMTruck club... I recommend you join up Sandy... check this thread out http://www.gmtruckclub.com/forum/thread ... ms.112629/

Re: Good Morning!
Sandy there is a chip that you can buy. its like $200 and it just plugs into your obdII port so it dosent void yoir warranty. simply put it turns off AFM saving the engine from the dreaded AFM failure. that will require a full engine rebuild claiming to prevent the failure but it dosent. see heres a quick explanation of what afm is... it shuts off half of the engine so its only running on 4 cylinders saving fuel but how it does this is what kills the engine. the cam shaft and the lifters that open and close the intake and exhaust valves are turned off... so no fuel + no fire = saving fuel... but all the while those 4 pistons are still turning and because theres no combustion they start to eat oil and destroy things until it completly crashes. I believe its the lifters that crash initially as this is what shuts off... then the people have to fight with gm to have them fix it... gm claims the new vehicles have been fixed and are free of this problem. I have seen one 2015 with 2000 miles with afm failure so who knows. its like rolling the dice... or just get that chip and avoid it all!!!
Good Luck!

Re: Good Morning!
2006 is the last year without afm Tom and all those early 5.3 last, they are a good engine! just be sure on all these gm trucks to maintain your spar tire like every 6 months so it dosent get stuck! stupid design... throw it in the bed and lock it up LOL. I had to cut one off and it was such a PITA!

Re: Good Morning!
Already ran into that issue, Al...and the box is exactly where the spare is...totally crap engineering...but then, really, the purpose behind a truck has long ago ceased being a truck...
