Re: Good Morning!
SO I just had to rescue the neighbours cat who had gone hunting in the field adjoining us. Looked out and 10 of the chickens are stalking it! Last time they trapped one by the woodpile and it didn't go well for the cat.

Re: Good Morning!
I feel that they may take it too far since we also have a "not a Bobcat" here. A couple may "come to a bad end" as childrens cautionary tales say.

Re: Good Morning!
well. 1.5 inches of rain at least.....and still falling. i'm glad my farm is sand right now, but we have water coming OUT of a hole in the driveway, so i think this year there may be some driveway repairs and drainage coming.....
my one horse was just shivering up a storm last night, so everyone got some extra feed....this is nasty, soaking wet and just enough wind to keep everyone cold. sigh. she was okay this morning, she won't tolerate being locked in the barn so we opened the paddock to the west of the house so they could snug up to the house and get out of the wind better. why they won't use the barn is beyond me (can't see or hear i guess), and if we lock them in they go NUTS and would get out all by themselves through the wall...so. she was doing fine this morning, and tonight i'll bring her in and get her all dried off and maybe end up blanketing her for the night since it's supposed to get cooler on the weekend. that'll teach her to shed in the spring! my gelding isn't shed out yet, and he's doing just fine.
as of this morning all the royal palm eggs are either hatched or pipped and rocking and rolling. another 2 turkeys out, i think one is a red palm and the other is a calico. everything pipped, 100%! yikes. last year i switched to using the 1 degree cooler at lockdown and holy moly did it make a huge difference. i've had a 96% hatch rate on the turkeys! and even the chicken eggs don't mind it, i'm running at 94% on the chickens. if it makes it to lockdown it seems to hatch! whoohoo!
and apparently 2 of my roosters decided to have a conversation through their pen wall screen....so, my lovely welbar double barred boy was completely covered in blood from a gash across one of his wattles, and the other boy was taunting him. boys. geez. so, the offensive offender is now way far away in the pen furthest away from the loser wussy rooster, who will get a better bath tonight when i have a bit more time, now that he has stopped bleeding....man wattles and combs make a mess. he's going to be just fine, and he's a right pissy little bugger now, trying to bite and everything. so i made sure he was dry and let him settle overnight. and i won't just put him outside to wash, i'll use nice warm water....sigh. pushover....
dumb birds.
morels are up apparently. so might brave the mud and go and search this weekend. wild leeks are ready too! and hopefully we'll find some fiddleheads if they aren't already too big.

Re: Good Morning!
Sounds like you got an old broken drain tile in your lane Kathy .
Time to build the ark . My quest to fill a second turkey tag with my 20ga modified choke #6 shell is on hold right now till dryer weather . Hopefully Sunday , arthiritis just can't handle this crap even in a dogloo blind . Luck all keep your nickers dry . 🌨🌨

Re: Good Morning!
We got our new colt out yesterday morning for an hour knowing that the next three days he and momma will likelybe staying inside. He was only 9 hours old, but moving well with the big mare. It's really amazing to see how quickly they get mobile and then coordinated. We have high hopes for Lucky and his full yearling brother. Extravagant Moves had a long career, was explosive coming out of the gates and holds a track record at Ajax Downs. She is also very well bred being sired by Shazoom who is in the top ten of all time producing AQHA racestallions. Dad, Luke (Look At Magics Form) also had a long career which included a stake race win and being the 2010 AQHA Canadian Stallion race champion. Lots to do between now and the start of the youngsters careers, but optimistic that they are going to be very competitive.
