Good morning all!
Monday before last, I traded a muscovy drake to DominionLink in exchange for some duck eggs. Just wanted maybe a dozen to stick under my duck, Fry Guy, who is the only 'regular' duck I have left after coyotes moved in last summer. What I got instead was about 40 eggs! On the 25th, I stuck 10 under Fry Guy (sitting on fakes) and stuck 14 in the incubator. That's all I could fit with the chicken eggs already in there since the 19th. :hide: Candled yesterday, removed 2 from the incubator and 1 from the duck nest, leaving 21 eggs humming along nicely. The rest will go in when the chicken eggs come out in a week or so.
Lacy my old turkey girl (the one with a bad hip (old mating injury) and missing the entire top part of her beak) is laying. She's in the milk house along with Kronk, who has bumble foot on one of his big, clown-shoe feet (nobody told Mr. Big and Dumb that a 40 lb. turkey probably shouldn't roost 5 feet up a tree) and Buddy the blind rooster. The milkhouse is supposed to be turned into a butcher room, but apparently right now it's the Gimpy Wing of the barn. Oh well, at least with Lacy laying out
there, Hamlet's not eating the eggs. I'd love to get some daughters from Lacy, she's one tough old bird. Lacy freeranges during the day, so she has her choice of toms. I guess once chicken eggs come out, a few turkey eggs will go in along with more duck eggs.
The puppy, penny, is doing great. I'm very happy with her temperament so far. She's had some messes when I work nights and there's no one awake to let her out, but that's it! So she gets crated when hubby wants to go to bed. I expected a struggle, but when you say bed, in she goes and has a nap. I can't get over her, awesome puppy!

awwwww fuzzybutts!!!! yay! glad the puppy is settling in www!

well, had a funny phone call yesterday-or maybe the day before, i'm sitting at my desk and my cellphone goes and it's one of my students, he's at the front door of the building and he said there's 3 yellow ducklings running around in the middle of the road down here. people are picking them up, i have a box, should i get them and what do i do with them? i asked him if there were any geese going crazy down there...he said yeah, there's 2 that are being really noisy. so i said "put the baby geese down in the grass and walk away". LOL. an hour later the geese and the babies were over in the parking lot having crossed the road safely and headed to the water (a creek that runs through campus), and my student now knows that baby geese can be yellow too, and that not all ducklings are yellow, and not all chicks are yellow....lol. and that parent geese get really mad when you try to steal their babies! ;-P it was a good laugh for me anyways. there were an awful lot of uptight people though-many of whom learned a bit about baby fuzzybutts....lol.

looking forward to the wyoming sale!
locked down turkeys that should start hatching sometime tomorrow hopefully. got the guineas set on monday i think it was, and then lockdown coming for chickens on saturday, and then again on wednesday next week. going to be a busy spring/summer with growing birds out. seems to be the year of the boys for me judging by what is in the grow out coop right now. lots of combs staring to grow in....and at 4 weeks (just about) they are roosting already 2 feet off the floor!

second half time week at work seems to be going pretty well...wish the weather would stop changing though! just rain and get it over with! although the amount of rain they're calling for makes me think i'll need an ark and waterwings for chickens, turkeys and horses. the dogs can swim. :-) hope everyone stays dry and warm today! have a great one!

Glad to hear that most of the duck eggs are humming along well for you Jan- hopefully there are a couple pure Magpies in the bunch :)

Over here at the funny farm it's been a looooong night. My mare Tess (Extravagant Moves) has looked like she was going to foal for the last 4 nights, and she finally did last night at around 11 pm. That was great except she decided to have the foal while standing up. I think I cushioned his drop a bit, and he doesn't seem to be any worse for the wear having been up and stable on his feet within 45 minutes. However, his nursing instinct was strong, but his skill level was very poor and he didn't properly latch until about an hr ago. So I've been back and forth from bed to barn every hr all night, seeing where he's at with nursing and milking the mare for him to keep his strength up..... Got to see a beautiful sunrise with a turkey gobbling out back. Anyway, he's looking real good now:
