Well farrier...think you were away for a while!?? Sorry everyone! i've definitely been MIA for probably close to 6 months??! ug. So busy. crazy. Ah well. Also still here. Lots of stuff going on-remodelled the barn, so we have one large pen of chickens, one pen with turkeys and some chickens that think they're turkeys because they don't like the other chickens. one giant pen with a giant horse (yes, molly is still with us!). My late father's estate has been done except the taxes (next year), and even the country place is getting back in order from the storm in the spring that ripped off the roof. We have managed to find a buyer, and that is also on the slate to finish next year. PHEW. now it's trying to get ready for winter, which seems to have arrived overnight a few nights ago with a flip of the light switch from 15C to -2C. hm. bees are put to bed, mite treated and wind breaks built and hopefully we'll have something survive through to spring. The upstairs in the barn has had all the smaller pens removed, and has been converted to storage, in prep for the barn turning into a shop when molly is gone. Hay is in for the winter. Corn and beans are harvested. Haven't had any time really to get out hunting, hopefully this weekend since i only have a bow license this year. And that will be it for me....setting up a small "garden" in the house to provide some vegetables because the cost of produce is absolutely insane. We have successfully established about 100 trees in a spot of the field that needed to be treed (along with a really nice bedding area for deer apparently), mostly black walnut, and have started putting trees around the house, including some pawpaw! I have, somehow, a chicken running around with 2 chicks right now. we drove in from work to find them standing in the driveway. SURPRISE! One black, one yellow, both complete opposites of each other, and doing just fine. Now to find out soon if the heated buckets are actually still heated or not....ah the joys of wintertime with livestock.
Hope everyone is doing great!

Speaking of birds, I noticed what looked like an egret with short legs in the farm next door and thought it must be far from home. A couple of days later, there were several cars parked on our street, and people looking through binoculars. Turns out that they were bird watchers, and it was, in fact, a Cattle Egret (hence the short legs). I felt privileged to have seen it (twice).

Frankly with the AI and food costs it's enough to make anyone rethink what they're doing. Sad though.
