Good Morning!

Post by Killerbunny » Tue Feb 07, 2017 7:02 pm

My 3 Toms are all strutting and the girls are yipping but not laying yet. The 2 young boys seem to be concentrating on each other rather than being silly enough to take on Stephen. Some of the girls are getting a touch bitchy wit each other for dominance. I do NOT need so many babies this year! The light brahma cross boy is very calm and the girls like him. My Blue Columbian Wyandoote boy from OC is nice with his 2 pullets and I've had to put them both in saddles. Strange because he's very young (June 1st) and dotes mature late. My 4 pullets that I kept are laying well an they lay terracotta, olive, green and pink! The other girls are getting back in on the act again.

Good morning!
Sun is shining and we seem to be fully encrusted in some kind of "icing" ? at least it's not slippery.
Glad "Chunky" is doing well, I still have my 3 Columbian cockerels together, and apparently I have been waiting for a miracle in which the best one will NOT have the worst comb, but wouldn't you know it, as the started they continue.
Will probably be looking for a good home for Hamish and couple of his ladies, as reality is starting to set in.
I seriously dislike reality ;)
Hope you have a sunny one!

Yes, I'm not impressed with "reality" either what ever the heck that is!

So my human door into the chicken pen was so thick with ice I couldn't open it! I had to go in the coop and crawl out the chicken door and kick the heck out of the big door from the inside in order to get everyone locked up last night lol. Haven't tried to get out there yet this morning...It didn't get warm enough here to melt anything last night so may be one long slide across the back yard!

The commuter bus I take into Ottawa rolled over just past Winchester, so the commute was cancelled at that point (obviously). I haven't heard if there were any injuries, but I imagine it was a frightening thing to go through for all those who were on the bus at the time. This was our regular bus driver's last run before his vacation in Mexico. I wonder if he's hurt, and if he will make his flight.
Hubby drove me in as far as the closest Park 'n Ride and I caught a city bus downtown. The roads weren't too bad at first but we wound up driving through a snow squall. Very strange weather.

Lucky escape Jaye, there were few roads in really bad shape yesterday, couple of pile ups on Cedarview, not a pleasant weather to be stuck in a ditch, had to go out and it felt like my face was being sandblasted.
Looks much better today :)

I am a bit impressed here, I don't have any chicken doors I could fit thru ;)

Another couple weeks of not smoking and that may be a tight squeeze for me as well!

morning everyone! okay, well, 26 minutes into the afternoon. oh well. much better weather today! wow. my dogs are nuts barking at nothing. go figure.
i caught the mouse that has been in the kitchen!!! whoohooo!!!! using a quarter of a vegetable oxo broth cube smushed onto the mouse trap. worked like a charm! yay! the darned thing was getting into the one drawer....hate that. for some reason we are inundated with mice this year. with 3 cats in the house this is absolutely obnoxious (i think the rain has something to do with it from yesterday). the cats had one in the upstairs hallway early this morning and this one was dead in the trap. so that's 5 in the last week! gah! i hope it's over soon. hopefully we're running out of them! maybe i should stop feeding the cats for a while.

productive day yesterday. got the accounting done, and the business HST filed. i like that things are done online now. so much faster and easier. also found my old crock pot that i used to melt wax in from the hives when we had bees. cleaning it out so i can make some liquid soap sometime. even got the plants watered! and did my couple of miles on the treadmill. and as many of the chores as i could....still don't do waterers. not allowed to lift. so i'm still just turning on the tap for the water trough for the horses and checking feeders...collecting eggs with my reacher. but yesterday i was a dolt and broke one :-( dropped it. sigh. bad bad human. the chickens were just looking at me like "what did you do!!!!???? i worked hard to lay that!!!!" at least they didn't come running in to eat it.....felt bad anyways. my turkeys jennies are all cooing at the toms now and posturing. so i think we'll start getting eggs soon. those i need to incubate....i really like the calicos, and i have 2 royal palm girls in with a red palm boy. and i need a few more red palms. only have the one pair right now.

looking forward to saturday, hoping to stop by the show in sarnia for a little bit! and the maybe talk my hubby into stopping in chatham on the way home so we can finally go out for dinner to celebrate our anniversary...which was a little while ago. looking forward to getting out again. made a small venture to the feed store and grocery store on the weekend and was totally done by the time we got back home, and all i did was sit in the truck. lol. have to get used to travelling again if i'm headed back to work in march! (also looking forward to getting back to work).
hope everyone has a wonderful day, and it's not too messy driving, and folks can get into the coops/barns!
