Salt test I found on the web
Small bottle cap Fill with table salt
Add a tiny bit of water just to wet it not enough to dissolve salt
Place in plastic ziploc bag with your hydrometer
Trap some air in it. Let sit approx 8 hrs
Humidity should read 75%
This way you can tell how much it is out
Not sure if anyone knows this to be a reliable method or not??

Thanks everyone
So far 6 chicks hatched
Lost count how many pips because the hatched chicks keep rolling them around!
First pip was yesterday at 2:00 pm
First hatched between 7and 8am today. I think. Lol
Not sure if all hatches are this slow?
When do I decide to take out hatched chicks without hindering ones not hatched or pipped yet????
For sure I know 24 hrs they are okay
What is the maximum time they can go without water?

WOOHOOO CONGRATS!!!! they can go 48 hours n be perfectly fine. everyones incubator and methods differ I wouldn't take them out yet as you will loose the humidity. IF you have to I would add very warm water at the same time n be as fast as possible. they will zip n rest then zip some more and will hatch in groups, I like to think of the chicks causing chaos as motivators for the zipping chicks...

with my hatcher, its a set of drawers so I can open mine very quickly without losing very much humidity if any at all but i will still wait until 3/4 or so have hatched.

sit on your hands! hahaha

Ok Al
As long as I can still look at them through the windows. Lol
There are 7 now
Like you say they seem to hatch one bunch then nothing but pips. Then hatch a bunch again
Little buggers are pretty lively already
Super happy here
