WHAT Unicorns aren't real, say it isn't so!

PS. I can't believe how big a liars the government is, how they are always doing secret experiments that end up causing trouble.
Yes unicorns are real but you realise it takes a virgin to trap them. Just sayin'

May 8 1977 i spent 3 days stranded in the mothers day blizzard that dumped a sea of snow on sw Ontario....they pulled the plows and the opp off the roads and the military ended up helping with the road works after. The regular plows had issues getting through!
A pig farmer took us in - 3 kids and mom and kept us safe until it was over. We got to see the sows and piglets and helped with chores and putting ropes up to the barn so we could find our way there. In night 2 a neighbour of his stumbled in half frozen having gotten lost trying to get to his barn-he lived a half km away and his barn was 100 feet from the house...! He had hypothermia and frostbite but the paramedics couldnt get there so they sent in the military chopper to pick him up. He survived but lost some fingers. Lucky he didnt die...even the guys on the helicopter were thinking about just staying and treating him there because of the snow but ended up flying him to toronto. Quite the experience.

We were without power for the better part of a month during the big ice storm. I was able to bathe at the gym at work because I had a membership at the time. One of the things I remember getting on my nerves was the number of people on the elevator complaining that they were sick of hearing about the ice storm. We were hauling in water to flush our toilets, etc, while most of these complainers hadn't been without power for more than a few hours. At worst they had to do without overnight and part of the morning, and they still had flushing toilets and running water.
Oops, sorry - this should have actually been posted in the ice storm anniversary thread.

Yep...we were without Mr Hydro for 18 days back in '98... Lost a lot of birch trees and the poplar suffered as well...for some strange reason, our nifty rural subdivision near North Gower was serviced by a line that came across the Rideau River from the North Grenville side...it skipped on a pole placed on a wee island mid stream and that pole snapped...voila!.. No juice....on day three of the outage i got my hands on a 5k genny from the home depot..cost me $800 but it worked like a dream..and I got the 800 back from the insurance company because it save my basement from being flooded...and I ran my house on it for the duration...wired it into the main panel...always remember to turn the main breaker off, by the way (big big safety hint there)...but even tho all of that ice storm was a major inconvenience it wasn't as bad as others had it...we had heat and water and food..and the biggest thing is that we really got to know our neighbours and made our relationships much stronger ...friends that we still see today even though we moved here where we are now..silk purse and all that...nothings ever as bad as it seems..things could always be worse.. AND of course, it made me determined to get off the grid :running-chicken:

Yep, we were out of power 4 days, not a big deal, just happy we had a woodstove. Burnstown, village near me, the reataurant had gas oven/stove so everybody brought food there to cook. Big party for four days, cards, boardgames, etc.
South of Ottawa, Kemptville, Kingston, power lines smashed, trees down, out of power three weeks or more. Cheers to you all.
The worst for the forest was four hot dry summers the next four years, as trees need water to heal. It took me years to clean up the mess in the woods.

Good morning? maybe..
coldest yet, -24C outside, -15C in the barn, should warm up fast with the sun out, but at this point if there wasn't 50 of them, I would like to bring all the chickens in the house, glad they are all wearing a dawn duvet, DH said he promised them abetter weather tomorrow, I hope he is right, somehow seems like this winter is going to be one for the records one way or other.
Cant even imagine the mess on east coast.
Have a safe one!

Free snow , I will even blow into your vehicle for you . Only problem is all surrounding roads closed .
Only emergency folk & mental midgets should be out in this and maybe not even emergency folk but that's their job . Bless them & their families . Luck all
