Kathy, BIG  . I know it is scary for sure but hope this is the beginning to the light at the end of the tunnel for your back. Longtime back issues are not pleasant. Well had both my knee surgeries in December so I know the feeling of getting the scramble done before you go in especially with Christmas coming. Sending you all good strength and healing vibes.

Lol goatgal35. I hear ya. What I love in taekwondo is that we practice barefoot. I'd go bare foot around here but the previous landowners (pre 1972) would throw garbage anywhere. Busting glass bottles against the barn...nails everywhere...busted pottery. Last weekend we took a load of metal to the dump..including a truck frame (that's all that was left) out of the sugar bush. Fricken license plate from 1928! Of course we now realize there's a bunch of glass, pottery and other junk on the same spot. Gonna take the backhoe to it sometime.

Everytime I go to clients many say "leave your shoes on." Then I explain my chickens are free range...likely something on my shoe.

Gotta love Jeff Foxworthy..."if your new tv is on top of your old tv....you might be a redneck!"

 Hey, Kathy, I too want to wish you all the best for your upcoming surgery and subsequent recovery. Although it's sooner than you expected, I think in the scheme of things it's better than a longer wait: the sooner it's done, the sooner you will be on the road to recovery, and saying "adios" to back pain.
A few things I learned from my Dad: After surgery, wheeled walkers with baskets are invaluable for getting around and for moving stuff too. Those grippy pincer tools for picking up stuff from the floor are great for a lot of things too (even Dollarama sells them these days). A tool to help with putting on socks will help during your recovery as well, I think, since it will be winter.

Morning all! Wow cooler today after a ton of rain and a snow squall warning lol
Guess this is it-the slope to winter-after 20c yesterday!!
Our critter helpers know and are "booked". Reacher/grabber: check!! I have 2 actually. Because theres 2 floors in the house and i am sure i will lose one everywhere. I dont have a walker yet....hoping i wont need one...but probably should. I have already figured out the sock thing. And the jeans thing. And the general i think i will just stay in my pjs all day thing. Need to cull birds....and process those roosters. Anyone want any? There are a few black tailed buff marans....and lots of blue wheaten ameraucana x marans ees. Have to get the house organized now. I am glad its booked. Finally. Been 18 months since seeing the specialist. And 2.5 years since seeing my family doctor. Thats a long time. I am not going to miss travelling in the snow back and forth to work!!!

Our crop share farmer got the corn down yesterday!!! Yay! We can see again. Our property really is quite big after all. Lol. Always feels like living in the bottom of a toilet paper roll with corn all around.

Alright. Hope everyone has a great day. Physio here i come (after some caffeine) and then onwards!!

I am so Glad you have your surgery finally booked. Hopefully the date comes and goes, and everything done was smooth, great, and you get home in time to lay by the fire, warm and comfy... and heal!! Watch the blizzard outside.... Martin going out and feeding..... cats curled up around you! Stock up on movies you haven't seen, or pull out your favourites, before Martin goes crazy trying to find the one you want in the stacks you have, lol.

What a cold rain this morning!! Started out warmish.... fed the birds in the light rain, because I didn't haul my ass out there before it started... and then just kind of played in the barn. Moved 49 young guinea's to Hagersville yesterday morning. Hope they brought a decent price. Kept 4 white ones back, and 7 pearls... going to eat the pearls... and kept the two turkeys back. I'm sure I have a pair. They were the ones that were for sale here a long time back, when they were mere poults.... they are now growing nicely, and looking great! They are enjoying a pen to themselves.... the guinea's.. typical of them, were starting to feather pick and pull each other, as well as making bleed spots on the Jakes head. They really are such dicks... but I like them anyhow. Alot less chores to do now, same two pens full of water and feed to do.... but not every day, lol.

Went to town and put a cattle cheque in the bank, ran for milk.. paid the vet, and went to the local bakery to get cranberry scones. So so good.

I have to babysit Melissa's Mason from 3:15pm to about 11pm. They are going out for a supper; a friend of Melissa's is having a surprize birthday supper somewhere and a party afterwards for her husband. I can't believe Mason is over 4 months old now!! Smiling lots... he has the cutest little sideways smile, lol.

I was hoping it wasn't going to be nasty and blowing out... so I could take him out in the buggy. Oh well. Thats where I snapped this picture of him, lol.

Well, I'd better pack my books... glasses... and something to eat while there. She offered to go to town, and buy my favourite sandwich from a restaurant we all like... but thats highly un-necessary, lol.

Kathy I'm happy to hear you will be getting fixed up. I had back surgery 4 years ago to take out a disc and clean up stenosis. Doesn't sound as big as what you may be dealing with BUT I can tell you that my first lucid thought upon waking from surgery (after wiggling toes to ensure everything still worked) was that I didnt feel the sciatic pain in my leg for the first time in as long as I could remember. It was a euphoric feeling. Best wishes!

Kathy, I still have my Dad's walker, so if you would like to use it, I'll put an ad in the transportation needed section. I know it's not for poultry but ... :-)
This time of year I'm sure there will be people from this neck of the woods visiting family in your neck of the woods. It's a Nexus folding one, wheels rated for outdoor use as well, and it's in really good shape. Comes with a basket too (need to find where that is). If you're interested, let me know, and we'll see about getting it to you somehow. My Dad loved it for moving stuff around: Laundry basket, groceries ...

SO I'm back online after 2 days with no phone, internet etc after the main line was cut!
Congrats Kathy and big hugs to you. Exciting and scary at the same time. Our neighbour has just got a date of Dec 22nd to have his hip resurfaced and the ball replaced. Quite a young guy too..
Went to the turkey coop to find one of the nicer Jakes down and flopping around. He had injured the joint of his wing badly and likely fallen onto his neck, big lump in his neck, just quivering. Had to put him down ugh. Dressed out at 14lb for 28 weeks. Wing and neck looked dreadful when I plucked him.
