Good Morning!

Post by Maximus » Tue Oct 18, 2016 8:09 pm

Spoke with Herm this afternoon. Farmer behind me hasn't seen any. So we figure we have them all around us right now and across the road in those fields and woods. I walked out back this afternoon looking for fresh deer poop in their typical spots. None. But what I did see was scat wars on fallen trees and fur remenents from some small animal.

They're back.

Saturday I will see what I can come up with when I sit and wait. Patiently.

Maximus wrote:QR_BBPOST @ross I was thinking I needed tags for yotes. But it all came back to me. I'm good. No buck tags needed this year. Wouldn't know where to start with cleaning and dressing anyways.

You know, I think it to be a stellar idea for part of the hunting course or a subsiduary of the hunters Ed course should be gutting/cleaning and sections/preparing the meat(s) etc.

I really would like to try wild turkey hunts and the meat, but the task of cleaning is daunting to me. So much so that I'll avoid it. The same with deer or any kind of hunt.

Join a club in your area find a mentor or talk to OFAH . You say you have a lady friend who hunts , talk to her . Lot of folks take deer to abattoir after gutting . Small stuff is a matter of getting your feet wet so to speak . Being from another time era & a father who fished & hunted & a mother that did everything from scratch I was started & helped at 4yrs old . Not for all I'm sure Trial & error . If not into it not every body does/can , you'll do it if you want to bad enough . Luck

Sandy, cleaning a turkey is EASY! so is doing up a deer.....the biggest thing is having a hoist. You should come visit me....i'll show you how to dress and clean and butcher a deer in under 6 hours, freezer ready. and then how to tan the hide. :-)
turkey is wonderful meat! and cleaning is sooooo easy! yep, like ross said, team up with someone to mentor you, someone local, and learn. :-) I'm going deer hunting this weekend i hope....lets see if i call you right after the shot, by the time we have it out of the woods and in the freezer you'll be here. hm...that doesn't help does it? lol. i'll see if i can dig up my old "teaching" document that i made up when i was mentoring new hunters...i had one deer i photographed the entire procedure and wrote up descriptions of what and how...all the way from the finding to the freezer....it's at least 3 computer meltdowns back....sigh.

wow foggy this morning! like hand in front of your face, i'm the only person in the universe feeling foggy kind of day! guess fall is here! i sure prefer these mornings to yesterdays! have a student defending today, and a budget for a grant to write...i'm sure my student will do fine. :-) just get a bit nervous for them....lol.

hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Good morning,
Lollygoging around Bay of Quinte, the weather is pretty amazing, breakfast outside is my idea of heaven and since I don't have chickens to look at, view of the bay is almost as good. ;)

Thanks for suggestions. Kathy don't worry about digging it up. I'm sure you're busy enough these days. Deer hunting won't be happening this year so it's not a rush.

mmmmmmm fresh wild caught fish n chips! silver bass is on the menu tonight deep fried in a gluten free batter. mmmmmm is it ever good! I've found a couple of the local fishing spots on the nearby rivers, I also found the local free boat launch and cant wait to put the boat in. so the first spot last week my buddy, using a plain old white twister landed 4 very nice eatin sized pike, I couldnt catch a snag. LOL.

yesterday we went to a differnt spot one of the local guys told us about and its on the Snye River, what a heck of a spot. within 2 hours, on minnows we caught 14 silver bass and a few sheephead, threw the sheephead back though.

no limits on silver bass and they are such an underrated pan fish, its awesome when you find one cuz there's a whole school coming and lots of fishing fun. they are a great bite, a great fight and taste great as well.

I havent fished much the last couple years but here at the new place there is an awesome network of rivers all within a few mins drive and im very happy to get back at it.
