demon duck is a muscovy and is super protective....and goes for the face with claws and wings and beak. their claws are sharp and long and their bite draws blood ...its only when shes sitting on eggs. other times shes a normal duck....

Friend of my husbands family said that they were at the feed store and a person at the feed store said feed companies made the chickens lay fewer eggs by changing the feed and they increased the price of eggs. So I said it's winter less light, less eggs but yes the number of eggs could change because of what is in the feed. Maybe I shouldn't have said that justifying the conspiracy theory....oops...

Chatting to a friend on our dog walk at noon today when we saw a fox crossing the road, followed by another fox! Good to know there are foxes about because we were overrun with rabbits in the garden this summer. Maybe the foxes can keep them down to a dull roar.......

The only thing changed about my feed is the price. Gah...27$ a bag....when i started in this whole chicken thing i paid between 9 and 11 depending on time of year. sticker shock at the feed store yesterday. even our dog good is up to almost 80$ a bag!!!!

My chickens are laying up a storm. thank goodness someone came by for 12 doz this morning because i am almost out of room in the fridge. so many people complaining about store prices and i cannot sell enough at farmgate at 4$?? the world is weird

I think I'm paying around $22/bag and it used to be $12. I'm not sure of these numbers though. I'll check the next time I go. The farmer on our street sells for $5/dozen. My friend also in Caledon said she buys eggs from a farmer for $5 a dozen and would buy mine but I never have extra. Lol. I give my eggs away when I have extra. Family and friends love having fresh eggs. They are probably healthier but I've never had an egg tested for nutritional value. Lol.

I am paying $6 a doz. at "farm gate" and happy to get them

We are buying 40 kg bags for $25, but our chickens leave the corn kernals! We were buying organic mash for around $36, but were throwing away a lot of "crumbs". Admittedly it was probably worse at the end of the season........

Hello all. Of course I only come here when I need something. My rooster was toes up this morning. WLL or someone close have another?

And $5 a doz is going rate now far as I know.

I buy chicken sctatch cracked corn and whole wheat, $113 a 22 kg/50 lb bag. From right near WLL. Mine are laying fairly well right now, getting five or six a day from 15 birds, over half of them pensioners.

Talking about old birds, what about this 93 yr old that wants us to have a decent meal? Won't just go sit in the chair. And she was the one that found the dead rooster. No, that is not what she is cooking.

Just won't quit. Like the energizer bunny.
