Good Morning!

Post by WLLady » Mon Jul 25, 2016 10:46 am

aw brebis, sorry, but happy they went to a good home!

BVF zipped down and visited last night, back home now with her new blue wheaten cockerels....easter eggers, but they're gorgeous and friendly and hopefully will do good things LOL. and sent her home with some brick to put around her firepit/reclaimed washer drum.

woke up in an awful thunderstorm, power out, and they don't think it will be back up until 5 or so tonight. i sure hope it stays cloudy, or i'm going to have to fire up the generator for the fans in the barn. it was already 32C up there this morning, and the humidity is AWFUL. there's trees down and branches everywhere on the ground all the way to close to melbourne, huge old maple trees along 2 blown over....and hydro crews were already out....must have been quite the wind....i heard people talking about possibly a small tornado, but likely a straight wind or downburst, we get those a lot it seems.

Aarts trucking is coming to pick up the bin today! yay! it's full, and everything is done! BVF helped pick up nails and broken shingle pieces yesterday when she came down! THANK YOU!!!!! so i can get the fencing in, put in the gate and then start on the turkeys outside pens soon! a very long 5 days of tearing down and cleaning up that mess. incredible how much dry rot through both those buildings. a lot of the wood was just shattered to bits when it hit the ground. glad that is done!

hope everyone has a great day!

Wow, is it hot out there! Wow! I see from in here, very breezy now. Time to go back out.

Had a great time at Kathy and Martins, helped with the demolished shed... picking up pieces of shingle/wood/nails. It looks amazingly better! Then fire, wine and flat pretzels.. after an amazing supper lol. Got a few cuddles in with my favourite cat, and a few pets to the other two.

Headed home this morning, went to the barn and settled the cockerels.... and did a few chores. Then gave Honey her meds... shes got a cold. Always something. Went to the garden, as we did get abit of rain.... not much, 3/10ths of an inch.... but I'm sure everything enjoyed getting that shower! Pulled a few weeds, then had to come in and shower, and head to an appointment.

After that, headed to Rona.....got some hose splitters and washers.... and plant tie ups (can't for the life of me find the ones I had last year), then to the bank... liquour store.... (love that sommersby hard cider)... and over to Walmart, but they didn't have what I wanted... so basically bought a bag of ice, and a freezer/cooler bag... and took Melissa a McFlurry from McDonalds.

Got to cuddle the grandson for about 20 mins... then home. Was so sleepy, lay on the couch, but just lay there. So.. going out now. Maybe pull weeds. Later, I need to do these beans I picked two days ago, and possibly pick more!

So thanks WLLady and Martin.. for the wee vacation, and the lovely boys. I did get sent home without coffee tho... ya, their power was out.... but there was an en-route close by. lol.

Yeah...no way to make coffee this morning!! The power just-about 5 minutes ago-came back on. Hubby zipped home from work to get the generator going for the fans in the barn and the fridges/freezers. Bbq for dinner tonight. Horses are good. I will prob spray them with the hose tonight. No more coons in traps this morning! Whoohoo!
Bin was picked up today too. And our tiller is parked in the driveway to stop people from driving through where we might have stray nails on the ground. Wow...ordering that bin was awesome....threw everything in....managed to fit it all in!! Including the stuff for our dump run!!!
Okay...dinner then check all the critters again and hike the ac lol. It was great to see you shirley! And we owe you a pot of coffee

Good evening all, such hopeful news....hoping for the best, should find out by end of the week. happy happy me!!
Also having a thunder shower as I type! Picked up a truck for my daughter today...a dodge 4500 crew dually diesel, she'll be joining the ranks of hay haulers in the area, she likes going to the sales and with this truck she'll have room to takes her kiddies along if she wants and make a little money to boot.
Took the one chick the two pure americauna chickens were fighting over away from them so they will hopefully start laying again. How soon will a hen start after she loses her chicks? The chick was 3 weeks old and eating fine on its own so I put it in with same age chicks from last hatch last night after dark, this morning they were all fine.

Mine took about a week after weaning off her chicks last year, and this year she was already laying when they were 8 weeks old. Still being a mom to them, hanging out with them, but the apron strings were cut at about 7 weeks. All that to say, I guess it depends.
What hopeful news are you alluding to?

Good evening we didn't end up with any rain, it just got very, very humid, so I had to drag the hose and buckets around to water plants to keep them alive. No rain it the 14 day forecast, I really hope that changes.

Heading out on a little poultry road trip Tuesday morning, around 1100 km round trip, to pick up a couple things, I wish they were calling for cooler temperatures but looks like it is going to be another warm one.

I will be traveling west on Highway 7 from Perth to Lake Simcoe then North on Highway 12 to Penetanguishene, then South to Barrie and then Highway 400 to Toronto and then the airport.

Any good feed stores or other cool places along that route to stop and take a look?

Good morning all,
Bring us some cool stuff Jim ;)

Seriously downsizing the garden next year. Holy. Don't need all this stuff for the two of us. AND if my lazy GD children aren't willing to come pick/process.... then to hell with them.
Killerbunny wrote:QR_BBPOST I hear you on the garden. Neighbour last year was saying about how nice the new potatoes looked. I said that if he would like some he was welcome to dig a plant or two. He didn't want to but wanted me to do it for him!!!!!! Guy is a farmer and younger than me. Honestly.
WLLady wrote:QR_BBPOST I get people asking me for the "leftover vegetables" at work.....i laugh and say "come dig or pick them and they're yours". not one has come out yet. actually had one person ask for 3 pounds of asparagus and a monday would be perfect to bring it so they could eat it all week.....um....yeah....NOT.
Thank you for the morning chuckle, have been seriously downsizing garden for couple years now, last straw, Heritage red beets "grown to order" (read whining) then too busy to pick up..... after that any time somebody brought up desperate need for home grown veggies, I just offered a garden bed of any size they required surprisingly, no takers.
It's going to be a hot one again, I feel like I am living in the tropics, heat builds up until afternoon when clouds gather and a bit of rain falls barely wetting the patio and back to heat, but more humid.
Still no water in the creek, the muskrats are getting a suntan.
Finally figured out who has been digging under a fence, not a great picture, but I didn't want to startle him/her? very fancy tail on that one.
