So if anyone wants confusion my latest hatches will be interesting. 2 dark brown eggs from Barnvelder hens, daddy could be Partridge Chanty or light brahma. They have the sweetest hairy legs so we know that answer. 2 chicks from blue eggs one has clean and one hairy legs! Seriously cute little things. NJs are doing well and Nearlys descendants are black downed chicks. Both Mums have the idea and the chicks look robust. Looking forward to how they all turnout because I love some of these mixes.

Good Morning!

Good afternoon, just came in from doing a little landscaping, it is definitely a cool one today. I had a few new chicks hatch over the last couple days, not as many as I hoped, hatch day for a big batch of eggs was Saturday, but the power went out twice this week, so don't think that helped my hatch rate.

Yesterday I moved a few older chicks to larger grow out pens to make room for the new chicks.

Today was road trip day... left this morning at 6:15 am for a quick little 600 km round trip to Rawdon, Quebec to pick up a few birds. I picked up a 5 month old Serama roo to pair up with my 1 year old serama hen, also picked up a 4 month old frizzle serama hen. The main purpose of the trip was to pick up 2 pairs of Snowflake Bob White Quail, very excited about these birds. Go home late this afternoon, set the birds up in their new homes. I will take photos when they settle in a bit.

Oh ya my jumbo, TAM and mixed coturnix quail finally started laying this week. I have 18 quail it total, not sure of the sex ratio, I had them together in a grow out pen, no eggs all spring, moved them to the smaller breeding cages, and got 2 eggs the first day after the move.

She certainly KNOWS now, what a freak I am. I will let her explain, because she has a better way with words than I do.

I am never leaving home again. Ever.

OMG! Hilarious. So this Durango comes screeching on two wheels into the parking lot. Just kidding. So I'm walking towards the parking lot and across the way I notice this beautiful lady, with an equally lovely friend. As soon as ai heard the F bomb I knew who it was. Shirley!!! Some people need cow bells to announce their arrival, others need Shirley LOLOLOLOL!

I got to hear about her opinions of the bikers who consumed the majority of the way down mud Street. LOL. Just in case your wondering how much she appreciated the delay and annoyance, here's a replay of the convo. F. F. F. %#%|^|€|*{{+ and F. Hilarious.

So I shauffered them to the vendors, cause that's what I do for people. :) and well, that took 10 mins. After the ladies room, and the purchase of 2 Punk Rockers (Polish) we made the way back to her vehicle with her new additions and well, she's not going anywhere. Keys are gone. Disappeared. Lots of f bombs. Vanished. Pockets get emptied, lots of ummm, disgruntled language LOL. The look of panic on her friends face was flipping hilarious! Like she knew the poop storm that was coming.

I went and looked at the huge pepper plant she brought for me, in the tray. On the way to my truck looked left and right. No where. She looked 'everywhere' in her vehicle then we made our way back to the vendor area and searched and asked etc. Then the bathroom got checked multiple times and we resolved to the fact that the keys got flushed down the toilet, Gary gets the magical phone call. We look around a bit more. I head to my truck to look again and I hear a victory yell. She found them. Gary gets another call. LOL.

Keys, back seat, under a water bottle. NO idea how they got there.

So then poor Shirley needed a 15 minute cool down period before getting behind the wheel. Can't wait for our next encounter. HAHAHAH! Except next time I think I'll video it. Then we'll have our own reality tv show. Titled: 'Shirley Left Home'. I can see it now, move over Kardashians, we're about to blow up reality tv. Of course we'd have to be on after hours and Netflix because SOMEONE has a potty mouth hahahahahah!

Thanks for coming out and supporting the BST and for a good laugh. And thank you for the awesome huge pepper plants. Going in the raised beds tomorrow.

Poultryfest is in a few weeks....you coming? :)

NO, and this is pretty much how the day played out. The rest of my day was WRECKED, because once I 'came down', from blowing my gasket, all I wanted to do was sleep, lol. So, I had ME day, and read my book... watered my plants... watched my turkeys.

AND thanks again Maximus.. for offering to drive me home for my keys. NOT many people would offer to do that #1 to a stark raving lunatic....and #2... for only meeting said looney tunes only once before, LOL.

I really am my own worst enemy, lol.

Love the BVF and Maximus show. I would watch it, but maybe 1/2 hr shows would be easier on Shirley.
I was offline since Friday afternoon. No cell service where our scout group was camping. Had 6 five year old beaver scouts to mother hen over. They all survived. No incidents for all 18 kids (6 beavers, 8 cubs, 5 scouts) that went. I like not having to do paperwork!

I see PTO was busy over the weekend:

1) a new numbers game. Missed out the easier numbers. Have to start taking some large group pics.
2) Al is a celebrity AND a reptile expert. Who would have guessed?
3) OC is willing to discuss genetics with Shnookie , with a suggestion of hatching another 50 or so chicks
4) Skinny Rooster definitely wins the prize for best deal on hatching eggs this spring
5) OC has convinced me I DON'T have to try everything once
6) loving the egg incubating in the cup. Never too old to learn

There was so much more. Finally caught up on all the new posts.

Our Muscovy (last one of 5 sitting) finally hatched her ducklings, while we were gone of course, 18 in total I think. Will count tomorrow and check last few eggs in nest. Will post pics once that's done.

Have a great evening everyone!

good morning everyone!

didn't quite blow away this weekend, it tried, but man, am i glad we got the new roof on the house when we did! and built the barn! at one point we were running (okay, hubby was running, i was in no way able to run anywhere but i tried!) to get the doors closed on the barn before the next gust roared through with all the sand and dust and dirt and branches off the walnut trees (yes, there are actually branches with leaves that ended up INSIDE THE BARN through a 4 foot wide door....and would have kept going if it weren't for the water trough!). the wind was crazy! not a cloud in the sky....beautifully cool, but the wind....wow. we have started clearing out the driveshed in preparation for it to come down, along with the old tobacco drying barn. we'll have to rent a big bin i think....i swear the wood has 10 nails per square inch-every inch of it! it's going to be a bugger cleaning that up. so we moved the fire brick and syrup making supplies, and the chimney brick that was stacked in there, chased up a nest of field rats from under that, oh yay. got the extra wood into the other barn, and found/generated a pile of stuff we can burn in the evenings for bonfires. got the brussel sprouts and brocolli and cauliflower planted in the garden and mulched a bit of the garden-almost done that now (thanks to the hubby that's doing all the heavy lifting!!), did some weeding. still have a bit of lettuce to get into the ground. strawberries are dishing us up desserts at dinner time now! YUM! asparagus is all done....letting that grow up. and my raspberries, happily, have spread like mad this year! yay! was nice to be covered in dirt on saturday working in the garden :-) just puttering away kind of work. legbanded all the little fuzzybutts so i can tell them apart-although a bunch of the marans threw their bands i noticed this morning. oh well. rescreened one of the doors that the chickens and turkey poults had managed to make a couple of nice big holes in....then nice bonfire last night before bed, totally thought this weekend was fathers day, but nooooo it's next weekend. oh well, my dad got an email a week early. spent sunday morning cleaning the house...oh fun. i definitely would have preferred to help shirley look for her keys! LOL I did get a few text messages during the um...."incident"....lol. glad you found your keys!!! and lovely poofy birds-definite eye candy! congrats!!!!

never did get around to making my soap-farrier (colin) had dropped off some goat's milk a week ago-traded for hatching eggs, so after my hubby tried what he wanted i have enough left to make a small batch of soap! so it's in the freezer getting ready...lol. hopefully this week i'll get time to do that and try it out. Looks like our one puppydog is all healed up from his surgery and being a twerp again, hyper hyper. all the stitches are out and he didn't pop open anywhere, so things are good! he does look funny with all these little shaved squares just growing in new stubble LOL. but he sure is enjoying running again. yay! vet says he's cured too, they got enough margins all around the tumours, so they think he's just fine. YAY!

hope everyone had a good weekend. sounds like most did so far anyways! have a great day!!!

good morning all! Had a great weekend here. how come it is when we're expecting a possible storm or at least rain we never get anything? LOL I'll watch the radar and the storm splits or diminishes just before its supposed to come here and then I have to water the gardens! which by the way are doing wonderfully! I finally started tilling up the potatoe garden... better late than never I guess. LOL. Its just been to hot to get it done, it wil be done n planted today. and the sweet potatoe slips will finally have a place in the ground.

Sound like a great weekend was had by all (or most) LOL Shirley!

RedNinja im far from a celebrity and a lot closer to a reptile expert. I kept n bred reptiles from the age of 8 until I was about 25. I specialized in colubrids (kingsnakes, milksnakes and cornsnakes ect) and chameleons. chameleons are my ultimate favorite reptiles, I kept n bred 6 different species. I also absolutely love turtles and have kept n rescued a lot of unwanted pets, I didnt breed them. oh I also had a small Russian Tortoise, she was older than 50 years old.

now a days if I cant eat it I dont need it and so I keep poultry instead.

That wind sure was crazy strong eh Kathy! the temp went from 40º to 15º in about an hour, how there wasnt a storm involved there I dont know!!! LOL

heres a pic of a little painted turtle I caught to show the kids last week at a local conservation area. beautiful, These are my favorite turtles.

Have a great day all... I have some work to do. :-)
